Flooring has come a long way from using wood planks, sanding, staining, and over the years, the hours of TLC that is required to keep them looking nice. Now, your options of flooring are endless. People are using indian stone that was meant for the garden to bring that rustic look into their kitchens and homes. There used to be a time where if you had the money you wouldn’t dream of choosing anything but real hardwood floors. This no longer applies in modern decorating world for so many reasons.
Specifically, laminate flooring has also come a long way too. My generation and the ones above me will know people wrinkled their noses at the thought of using laminate with it’s no texture, no design options, and it’s wipe clean attitude. Well, I am here to tell you that only the latter of those still apply. Today, I thought I would share with you what’s so great about laminate flooring and why I choose it over hardwood floors for my house.
When we first moved into our house, I was ecstatic at the opportunity to pick out everything from the countertops to the flooring. At first when asked what I wanted for the floors I just automatically said hardwood. I thought, we were about to have a baby that it would be the best for the house and our growing family. As I did my research online, on pinterest and started talking to other home owners I realized I didn’t really know why it had to be hardwood anymore. I quickly changed my mind before it was too late.
We wanted low cost as we just moved and were about to grow our family and it just seemed silly when laminate flooring cost half the price or even less. You have the options of laminate looking like any type of flooring you prefer. You can have granite style, marble effect, slate patterns, and even high gloss laminate flooring at a fraction of the cost it would be to buy, install and maintain the real thing.
Laminate floorings have improved over the years so much. They are perfect for a young family with high traffic and little ones crawling on the floor. It’s made from pressed wood which helps make it more resistant to scratches, moisture and family wear and tear. It’s also easier to keep clean and that was a huge bonus for us with a baby on the way. If you have a pet, it’s a better reason to stick with laminate flooring so you don’t have to live in fear of a scratched wood floor.
Laminate flooring is DIY friendly. Get your friend over for drinks but not until the floor is laid. You can easily lay one whole room in a day. No more paying a fortune for your flooring to be installed! Do it yourself is always more gratifying too.
Why NOT choose laminate flooring? They have so many options that look like your slate, high gloss, tiles, granite, and hardwood floorings. Save that extra money to spend on home accessories. It’s cost friendly, installation friendly, easier to clean and easier to maintain. It no longer has that really artificial wood look for those hardwood lovers here too. I have been asked numerous times if ours is real hardwood or laminate flooring in our house. It always feels like a compliment to say, actually it’s laminate!
EASY TO CHANGE:
For me, I wanted something that if in ten years I wanted to change the flooring it wasn’t going to make me breakdown and cry at the price we paid to put hardwood in after it had been tormented by my (now) two children and pay for it all over again. Especially when trends are constantly changing. Grey flooring is the huge rave right now for home interiors. I am half tempted to start researching some grey laminate for our front room now.
