Music is so foreign to me yet I rely on it so much. I couldn’t tell you what the top hit songs are called or who sings them but I can guarantee I know every word of them. I turn to music for numerous reasons. I am a sucker for the sing at the top of my lungs in the shower song. I am also all for the sad depressing song that you want to comfort you or feel bad with you while you are down. Nothing is better though then being in a chirp mood, the sun is shining and blaring your favorite tune on your iPod to boost you the extra mile higher. My love for music goes from country to soul to hip hop/pop. Depends on what mood I am on what will pop up on my playlist.
Today, I am listening to Ellie Goulding as I just went to her concert in Manchester at the O2 Apollo. It was my first concert in the UK, I was really impressed. Its not a huge venue but that was my favorite part. It was intimate and personal. I fully admit I knew almost every song but wasn’t aware who sang them. It was nice finally to get to know more about the singer than the music which in return made me understand the songs more. I have made it my goal to pay more attention to the singers than just the lyrics or beats to a song. It gives the music much more power if you know stories behind them. Maybe the singer writes their own music or plays musical instruments as well as sings. That was one aspect of Ellie’s concert that impressed me, she wasn’t just a pretty face singing one else’s songs. She writes, she plays instruments, she dances, she is a true performer. She connected with her audience and really made you feel part of each song. I have been to numerous concerts in America and I can say few people do all this at such a tender age. She has been added to my playlist of moods.
The last concert I went to in America was a Rascal Flatts’ concert in Seattle, Wa. I went with my friend as we both we huge Rascal Flatts fans. It was a great show, they have been around for many years and are so talented. Their shows are full on productions, with dancing, guitar playing, at one point even flying over our heads. As one would expect from experienced performers, but all the same their music has been on my playlist of moods for years.
So whether I am soaring high with happiness or in a slump I always have a playlist ready. This year I am making new lists and paying more attention to who’s behind the music. My friend is an absolute amazing song writer/singer and when I hear her sing, it not only moves me, it truly inspires me to be better at everything in my life. I always want to be there to support her so why not do the same for all the music I love.
