Poem 62: Where is home?

Last updated on November 17th, 2023 at 05:22 pm

I feel at home now,

But I felt at home there too,

Where is home?

They say home is where the heart is?

Could that be true?

My heart lies here with my family,

But it lies their too,

My emotions creep up when I say my goodbyes,

The pain in my chest will fade with time,

But it never really goes away,

Excitement fills me to catch up with those here,

Sharing stories of friends there to friends here,

Two lives, two cultures,

Where is home?

I am a nomad now,

Either way there is pain of longing,

But grateful to have a great belonging,

To both places that love me so dear,

You are both my home that is clear!

  1. I like how you finish on a positive because it must be incredibly hard feeling like you have two ‘homes’. There are many great things I imagine about being in your position, but also an awful amount of sadness too.

  2. It must be so hard for you being torn between two homes! As you say, home is where the heart is but if your heart is with people in two different places then that must hurt. But I like the positive ending that suggests the positives of having two homes – that’s two whole places to have a happy heart! #prose4T

  3. It must be so hard to feel torn between two homes – but also lovely in some ways to feel so comfortable and at home in two different places. Love the way you finish this on such a positive note.

    • Thank you Louise. It gets harder as I get older to be an expat when I always thought it would be easier. But that’s my life I guess it’s just how I learn to deal with it and make the most of having two homes.

  4. The positivity at the end made this for me. You have two homes now, two places for your heart to be, and that’s great.
    Great poetry. x

    • Thanks Vicky. Glad you like it. It’s so much easier to write poetry about the way one feels sometimes. Yes you don’t have to be an expat to feel like that. Even in just another part of the country it can feel the same. Bless ya. Thanks for hosting.
