It’s October which means it’s almost Halloween. Where has this year gone? Like every year, life seems to keep speeding up as I get older. Days run into weeks that run into months and it sometimes can turn into one big blurp. I think that’s just what happens in life but more so when you have children. School days run into children’s parties that run into weekend activities or lessons. I am always on the go. But whatever we are doing or the places we are going I like to keep time spread for family time. A day where we have nothing planned and nowhere to rush off to. Those are the days we usually end of baking something fun and silly in the kitchen. It’s no secret, I love getting my kids involved in the kitchen. We bake together. We cook together. They play a big role in preparing dinners each night even. I think they appreciate it more when they understand what is goes into creating something to eat.
With Halloween in mind, we decided to take our favorite American Candy Corn and create something to celebrate the spooky holiday ahead. The kids are really excited for Halloween this year, now that they are older, and even picked out their own costumes for the first time. I can’t wait for it. We baked these scrumptious Candy Corn Halloween Brownies together to kick start a whole month of Halloween celebrations.
Candy Corn Halloween Brownies
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Green and Black Icing
- Gold circle sprinkles
- 1 small bag Candy Corn American Soda website sell it for UK readers
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease a square baking pan, or line it with parchment paper
Mix oil, sugar and vanilla extract
Add eggs and mix well
In small bowl combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt
Slowly add to the egg mixture and mix well
Pour the batter into the pan and spread evenly
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean
Zip zag green icing or any color you prefer over the top of brownies before cutting
Sprinkle Candy Corn candies thick across the top and press down lightly so they stick to icing
Sprinkle gold circle sprinkles over top and zig zag black icing over candy corn
Cut into squares

We have teamed up with Marigold to showcase just how fun it can be to clean up as much as it is to bake with your kids. After a sticky chewy baking session of Halloween brownies there was definitely a mess to clean up. The oil had spilt while we were measuring it out so the Marigold Wiper Upper yellow cloth was perfect to clean it up and shine my high gloss countertops at the same time. When it came time to wash up the big mixing bowls the kids had yellow kitchen gloves and suds building up in the sink ready to go. The Marigold Clean and Gleam sponge made it easy to wipe out the chocolate batter leftovers. No licks and scrapes in this house, unfortunately. The blue disposable gloves were great for protecting the kids hands from turning black from the black icing. After baking and the oven cooled, it was a job I couldn’t have the kids help out but I used the Marigold Oops Away pink cloth to wash out the oven. It was durable and soft and yet scraped all those baked messes away. I was impressed. It makes baking a whole day activity when you get the kids involved, even in the clean up, but it’s a day full of memories that will last forever. I still remember baking and cleaning up with my own mother.
