What better time to celebrate having a baby than in Spring time. The temperatures are warming up (we hope) and the birds are chirping. When I think about baby showers I always associate them with garden parties and lots of cake. It’s my favorite kind of celebration next to a good wedding. There are two types of baby showers the ones where you compete to change baby fastest or blindfolded taste baby food and then there are more formal ones that are afternoon tea style with your closest friends just to say congratulations. I am styling the latter here, don’t get me wrong I love a good baby shower game but after cake and prosecco too. Formal Garden Baby Showers are a lovely way to social with family and friends you don’t get to see very often, in the sunshine and fresh air. It’s also excuse to get some new outdoor garden accessories too. Why not splash out on some new cushions or perhaps some fun colored acrylic tableware.
First thing you need to do when planning a garden baby shower is choose a theme. I chose a garden tableware set with pink, yellow and green floral patterns. it just screamed Spring! Since we have had a late start to spring and my own flowers haven’t bloomed yet, I wanted to create a floral oasis with them. I had pretty and bright in mind. Using these gorgeous spring floral plates and spring floral cups did the trick perfectly. I used my beakers for tea or coffee to serve they have quickly became my favorite morning latte mug.Running along the center of the table I placed the matching spring floral table runner which actually has two side options, stripes or florals. It really brought our circle patio table to life. My theme is now set.
Did I mention Prosecco earlier? Yes, I did. How about Prosecco Punch for those that like a little bubbly during a big celebration. I make the most delicious baby shower punch.
BABY SHOWER PROSECCO PUNCH
1 Bottle of Prosecco
1/2 liter of Orange No Bits
1/4 liter Cranberry Juice
1/4 liter Pineapple Juice
To serve my delicious baby shower punch I styled it with a blush jug, and four blush wine glasses. The blush color accented the spring floral patterns and I love acrylic garden tableware, it’s safer, easier to clean, and more durable for your guests using them outside.
Now I just need a wow factor to style the center of the table. What is going to finish off my look? My advice here is don’t use things that are so tall that you can’t see people around the table. I am a big believer this puts a stopper on the social aspect when centerpieces are in the way. We all have been to that party where we can’t see those straight across from us, it’s not ideal. I love this silver mirror tray to reflect the light and show off my prosecco punch. I put flowers in a tiny crystal cup so it kept them low but added to the floral accents. Fresh flowers are always a must for a good tablescape. There are lots of ways to style fresh flowers into a tablescape from bundling them with cutlery and a ribbon or in small vases in the center or perhaps as subtle as rose petals on the table cloth like confetti.
We sorted the theme, styled the garden tablescape, now it’s time to talk about cakes. I prefer if it’s an afternoon tea party, we skip the sandwiches especially when it’s something to celebrate. Who doesn’t love an afternoon in the garden with friends, cake, prosecco punch and tea to enjoy on a beautiful styled patio table? No one really wants the sandwiches anyway. Whether it’s mini cakes or one large one to cut up for your guest, make it the wow factor of the party, go dramatic.
I choose a variations of luxury mini cakes, scones with clotted cream and jam, oversize meringues to serve with bowls of fresh fruit in matching blush acrylic bowls in between each place setting. Fresh fruit always balances out cake and pairs nicely with the meringues too.
This is how I style a garden baby shower. All you need to do is invite the guests, play some baby shower games after you indulge in your cake and catch up with family and friends in the garden.
