My very first 4D baby scan

Last updated on March 4th, 2024 at 10:16 pm

There are not many first when it comes to a third pregnancy. Those first milestones when you are first expecting are so magical. Having a third, you are already prepared for what those first baby kicks will feel like, or big movements in your belly while you watch tv will be. You will know when your midwife appointments need scheduled and when you can find out the gender (either in an early scan or 20 weeks scan).

For me, I had one thing I had never experienced with either of my first two pregnancies and that was a 4D Scan at the end of my pregnancy. The scan that allows you to see what your baby will look like and watch him/her moving around live on a big screen for the very first time.

I was invited to experience my first 4D Scan at My Baby Scan Burscough in Ormskirk. It’s located right off the main road, easy to get to in a little square that has restaurants and shops so you can really make a day of your experience. The office is lovely and cozy and the staff are so welcoming from the moment you walk in, and throughout the whole appointment. They are there to make you feel happy, comfortable and share in your wonderful baby journey.

I knew what a 4D Scan entailed but that didn’t prepare me for how emotional and amazing experience I would find it once I saw my baby on that big screen on the wall for the very first time.  This baby is definitely a mover. He was just as excited as I was to see what a 4D Scan was like and show off for his mama. It’s nothing like scans I have had before. In my 30+weeks and last trimester baby was fully developed and beautiful to see.

There was a large tv screen on the wall so I could comfortably view my baby boy and all that he was up to while the lady took pictures and measurements. It’s not just about seeing your baby fully for the first time but it’s also reassuring to have them check baby over and water around baby etc. I love getting that extra look knowing he is alright. He was tucked really low but soon got moving when we started poking around. For most of the scan he was kicking, jumping, punching, and even sucking his thumb. I assume this is foresight on being an active baby to come my way.

The biggest thing I was surprised at was him looking identical to his big brother when he was born. He has the very same lips and facial profile as his brother. It was like looking back at B. I got really teary seeing him there on the screen, moving around and only a few weeks he will be here with us and looking exactly like this. Technology really does amaze me. I am only too sad I hadn’t experienced this with my first two pregnancies too. I won’t forget each yawn, each stretch, and each movement as I watched him swimming around having a ball in my belly.

With fully qualified ladies scanning you, you can be sure they will be gentle and really let you have that special time with your baby. I even got an estimate birth weight which I thought was fascinating coming out exactly what my first two weighed too. I am keen to see how close it is as both my first two babies were the exact height and weight. Will I get a third baby the same?

I didn’t feel rushed at all which was really nice. I even got up and stood to have a moment with my baby on the big screen while he smiled back at me. It was like we was waving at me with his hands. Right then and there it made it so real for me. Not that his kicks didn’t validate this too but just what he would look like and how much he has grown in my belly and soon he would be in my arms. I couldn’t wait to give birth right in this moment and hold him. It really was surreal.

I received a USB drive with all my photos on it but there are numerous packages you can choose from and offers on their website too. It really is state of the art ultrasound experience and such a monumental baby bonding experience. I can’t rave about what I felt and saw during my own 4D scan experience. You can choose how long you want you appointment, prints, CD images, USB recording, key rings, and even heart beat teddy bears.

4D scans are best to schedule between 22-32 weeks. This enables you to see your fully developed baby but still have room for baby to move around and see what he/she gets up to in your belly. I was 30 weeks when I had my scan.

Here are a few of my favorite first photos of my baby boy!

How amazing and clear are these? I was just blown away. He was even opening his eyes in some of them for us and smiling. I kept saying he knows we are peaking at him and showing off. hahaha

Another thing I love so much about baby scans is listening to the baby’s heartbeat. It’s such a soothing sound and you can get it recorded into a variety of teddy bears which I think is a lovely gift, especially if you have other children so they can bond with their sibling before birth too. I think it’s really reassuring to hear that baby has a strong heartbeat every time.

My Baby Scan Burscough offers other services too, like early gender scanning and even gender reveal cannons like these black tubes above. You can even get the ladies to sort out which color so you don’t know the gender and do a big gender reveal party for family and friends. They are so fun. I wish I would have known about these when we announced our baby boy news at Christmas. Would have made a great Christmas party announcement with one of these. My Baby Scan Burscough 2d scan, 4d baby scan, gender reveal private scan

I knew what to expect and yet I was still blow away with my 4D Scan experience. I think every pregnant mama should at least experience it once if not every time she is pregnant. I just want to go back and do it again just to see little boy and what he is up to in my belly. I will cherish this day forever.

Thank you ladies at My Baby Scan Burscough for making my appointment more than just that, it was a memory made, a first for me, and it was so lovely to bond with my baby before he arrives. It’s made me even more excited if that’s even possible for him to get here.

Since my other children and husband couldn’t come with me, we had a baby face reveal evening at home. I put the photos on our tv using my USB stick and we all gathered around and clicked through each one talking about what we would name him, what he was up to in each photo and just how much he looks like his brother. MM just kept saying how cute he was and she couldn’t wait to meet him. It made it another experience sharing it with them after having that time with just baby and me that day. If you can take your family with you that’s even better.

  1. What a lovely way to see your baby and how cute is he! I think I had a 3D scan with my little one and I loved being able to share that with the Mr and my then 10 year old daughter. You’ve made me broody all over again x
