Our home is forever evolving with our family as it grows and the kids get older each room takes on a new purpose and a new look. Sometimes we even end up reverting rooms back to what they were before if needed. Our back room has been a man cave for hubby when we first moved in, to a playroom for the kids when they were both babies, to a pink adult only room for sitting with guests over while we entertain. With a surprise little baby arriving soon it’s now been reverted back to a playroom. It’s a small room just off our kitchen and leads out onto our patio in the garden.

We moved all the adult only glass tables and white furniture into the front living room and made that our new adult only room. It’s got a door on it to lock all the kiddos out and entertain without waking them long after bedtime. Don’t worry that room tour is coming soon, just waiting on new carpet. So we didn’t get rid of anything that was in this room previous just moved it around the house to accommodate.

I wanted a playroom that the kids could watch movies or cartoons, I could feed baby comfortably, the older two had lots of storage space for all those choking hazard toys locked away, while the baby had a nice place to crawl around and his own toys easily accessible in pull out bins. All the white units in our new playroom are from Ikea. They are the best playroom furniture for what I needed and not too expensive either.

We have teamed up with Sainsbury’s Home and their new collection to give it some color pop and a few nice touches so it wasn’t all about the toys and the stuffed animals for the kids. I love a playroom that is functionable but still looks the part too. Both of my older kids were always good about not touching things they weren’t supposed to and weren’t climbers either and with a little luck the third will be the same. Playroom Makeover with Sainsbury's Home interiors giveaway shop this look

I have the books for the kids to easily reach and pull one out for us to read together on the bench here. All I did for the bench so far is place one of the Ikea shelves sideways. The pull out grey bins are Ikea as well. With lots of fun cushions it makes for a cozy reading nook.

The baskets with linen lining, I will be saving for little man’s toys to chew and suck on so they don’t get dirty and other baby stuff I need readily available.

The coat hanger on the side wall on the right is part of the new collection at Sainsbury’s Home called Helsinki. It’s perfect to hang their umbrellas, coats, hats, above the radiator to dry. Or some fun kids costumes as it now holds a princess dress and one iron man costume for dressing up in the playroom.

The mustard cushions here are also part of this range. I love navy and mustard together with the grey and I also have added rose pink in various places. Mustard and rose pink are my new favorite colors together and you will see it creeping into my decor around the house lately too.

This is favorite new sitting place in the entire house. It’s my go to reading spot with the sun pouring in and easy to watch the kids play after school. I daresay I will be feeding baby a lot here too. I keep moving the fun cushions around not knowing what looks best here as I love these mustard cushions with the grey pattern one and the grey pom pom one the same. What do you think? Above or below?

I have decorated the Ikea white shelves above the sofa with more from the Helsinki range at Sainsbury’s Home. From the lovely grey lantern lights that are perfect for reading at night here, to the grey vase succulents, and picture frame to match and last but not least the Dream Big and Wake Up Happy typography are always good to inspire and motivate. The Helsinki range really has everything to coordinate for this look.

I having been shopping online for the perfect light for in the corner on the Lights website. They have some amazing modern ones that I think would fit behind the sofa and be perfect for reading at night so I don’t have to have the big light on. I am thinking tall, skinny, with maybe one or two bulbs at the top that I can adjust would be great in this space.

Let’s talk about this awesome side table from Sainsbury’s Home for a minute.

I was looking for the perfect side table that wouldn’t take up too much room but wouldn’t block the sliding doors or the light out. Not an easy task, I must add. Having rose pink, mustard and grey already in the room I was apprehensive about added gold and black but I actually think it couldn’t be more perfect for this space. The octagon mirror top reflects the light into the room. I added a gold basket that I also got from another range in SH to the bottom to put my lighter throw blankets in. It currently is holding a mustard throw from the Helsinki range.

Not wanting to put a photo frame as it blocks the garden view if you lie down on the sofa and want to look out, I added a little SH white rose mirror arrangement and a Enjoy Today grey candle.  Just enough to accent it but leave it to shine on it’s own. The table is super light weight and the edges are not sharp so it will be safe for baby when he starts crawling around.

I love baskets in my house. Whether they are holding blankets, plants, toys, laundry, rolled up wallpaper for food styling; there isn’t a room in my house that doesn’t have a basket of some sort in it, holding something.

This basket is from SH Riviera range. It’s another new range that holds lots of navy to coordinate with the Helsinki range so you can mix and match too. I love how sturdy it is. You can see it with my mustard throw here or below when I got a plant for Mother’s Day it now houses my plant by the tv. When the baby starts crawling around and getting into mischief (no it won’t house the baby) but most likely become full of baby toys and the plant move elsewhere.

I have so many succulents around my house that I constantly kill and have to beg to come back alive. But when I saw these grey vase succulents from the SH Helsinki range that were faux first thing I thought of was they look so real. So I had to have a few of them to mix in with the live ones just in case they don’t make it. I paired it again with another SH grey picture frame here.

We have a change area in the nursery upstairs now but I wanted to create a corner to change baby downstairs for convenience too. It’s completely different when you have two other kids playing and running around and possibly dinner on the table to run upstairs and change baby. While this hanging plant will be hanging from the ceiling as soon as I can get the ladder in the house to do so, this corner will be the diaper station. The storage underneath with have all the essentials organized in little baskets for easy to reach but out of the way of baby’s hands when he is on the floor. Playroom Makeover with Sainsbury's Home interiors giveaway shop this look

What do you think of my playroom makeover?

It’s one that will evolve with baby obviously when he starts crawling things will be moved around or changed slightly. But it’s an oasis to sit and feed him and be with the older children while they play too. I know I will be close by as he gets older while he plays and I can cook dinner and see him from the kitchen too. My two older kids have loved having all their toys in one room whereas before they were hidden in various cupboards, rooms, closets and always have to be hunted down as we have hardly any other storage space in the house. I think I love having only one room to tiny after they have friends over too.

  2. What a beautiful space! I LOVE the idea of turning the Ikea unit on it’s side to create a bench – that’s brilliant and something I’m planning to borrow when we finally get round to giving out entire house a proper makeover. You have such a wonderful eye for interiors Jenny – a side career in the making. (Also, wallpaper as backdrops for food styling = genius!)
