Getting pregnant for the first time should be an amazing experience, yet it is one clouded by a lot of anxieties these days. There’s anxieties about the pregnancy, about the birth, about the medical staff, and on it goes. So what does it take for us to improve that sense of happiness and have an amazing pregnancy?
Put Your Anxieties to Bed
It’s easy to become swamped with so much information about the bad things in pregnancy, and even beyond. If we hear so much about birth injury claims arising from things like oxygen starvation, our brains can go into overdrive. It’s not easy to calm anxieties, especially if you have a history of anxiety, but it’s important to start using this time as an opportunity to shed the skin of the old version of you. This can be the perfect opportunity for us to have a bond with someone that is unlike anything we’ve had in our lives. This can be an amazing way to start some form of meditation practice or to even start expressing gratitude. Even if you’re not keen on this hippie-dippy type stuff, calming your anxieties is an amazing way to ensure that your pregnancy will be healthier and therefore you will be happier.
Prepare the Real Things
Lots of anxieties in life stem from the fact that we are unprepared for what is about to happen. This is something that constantly happens when we discover we are pregnant. Issues with the house, finances, and even where the baby’s going to sleep are all things that can contribute to that feeling of unease. We need to tackle these things head-on and prepare our home and make sure that the finances can be in the best possible shape. This may very well mean taking a scalp to your bank account and cutting certain things out of your life, at least in the short term. Many people greatly underestimate the costs of having a baby, and even the costs of having children up to the age of 18 can run into the hundreds of thousands! Get your finances in order, and you could very well get your anxieties in order.
Prioritise Yourself
In many ways, this could be the last opportunity for you to truly pamper yourself, at least in the short term. There are lots of mothers out there who give every fibre of their being to their children, and as amazing as this is, we can run the risk of giving too much of ourselves on occasion. We need to learn how to reign it in and take care of ourselves as much as we want to! Do those things that you know will benefit your mind, body, and soul. Whether this is going for a swim every day, having aromatherapy, or buying those little treats for yourself, it’s safe to say that you have earned it!
Having an amazing pregnancy is not just about calming our mind, but it’s about making sure that we do prioritise ourselves.
