What To Look For In A New Bedroom Carpet

If you’re looking for a new bedroom carpet, then you’re in the right place. This guide runs through some of the things you should look for if you’re in the market to upgrade your flooring. Here’s our view:

Soft Fibers

When you walk on a carpet, you don’t want it to feel like you’re barefoot in the office. It should be soft and gentle on your skin.

Some carpets are made of nylon fiber, especially in commercial settings, but you want something that’s plusher for the home, like polyester or even wool.

If you opt for the latter, just remember to look after it well. Don’t allow any shoes in the bedroom!

Dense Face Weight

You also want to check whether the carpet has a dense face weight. The heavier it is, the more luxurious it’ll feel and (hopefully) the longer it’ll last.

Face weight is simply measured by the weight of the carpet by yard. The heavier it is, the more material it contains, and the plusher it’ll appear.

Built-In Stain Resistance

If you can find an option with built-in stain resistance, that’s also worth looking at. You want a solution-dyed fiber that won’t allow penetration by other agents, like food or even spilt paint. Stains should always come up if the coloring is correct, even if you have to use a wet vac or get a professional cleaning.

Low-VOC

Don’t neglect the VOC issue, either. You want a carpet that’s going to be healthy for you, not release all sorts of toxic compounds into the environment that cause harm.

Look for carpets that guarantee indoor air quality. Usually, they’ll have some sort of industry-recognized labeling on them to indicate that they won’t emit a lot of chemicals.

If you’re really worried about this issue, get a hand-made carpet. These lower the volatile organics further and can sometimes eliminate them entirely.

Warm Palette

Also, you want to look for a warm palette for the bedroom. If it is too bright or dark, it can actually affect your sleep quality.

A lot of homeowners opt for taupe or gray. However, beige is still an option if that’s what you’re used to. Taupe is a good choice because it hides stains and goes with most interior décor designs.

Better Padding

Another thing to look for in a carpet is superior padding. You don’t want to be able to feel the floorboards beneath. If you can, it means there’s a problem.

The best carpets now actually use memory foam, the same material used for mattresses. This deforms as you walk on it, but evens out the pressure on your feet so you’re always comfortable, even if you get out of bed late on a Saturday morning

Warranty

Finally, you want a carpet that comes with a warranty. You’ll probably never have to use it, but the fact that it’s there shows that the manufacturer stands behind its product and really believes in it. Many carpets come with warranties for 15 years or more.
