Oh, what a year!
I love the lead up to Christmas where there is so much excitement and hype in the air. It seems like such a huge wait and then it speeds like lightening through to New Years. This year, has gone so fast is some senses and in other senses it’s seems to chug along.
November was a horrific month for our family and bad news. It was hard to think we than had to get into a festive mood and be cheering come December for the kids. Somehow life does cruel and challenging things to us in life and we must stay strong for our families. We must pick ourselves up and get on with it, no matter what. It’s not easy, and some days are harder than others but I do it for my kids, for my husband, for myself as much as for those that I love that are hurting during this year’s Christmas season. Sadly, as we travelled to the USA to be with family, my Grandma passed away before we landed. It was hard this Christmas to keep that frown upside down and the selfish part of me just wanted to see her one more time. But I know she was watching from above us on Christmas Day.
We did Vlogmas this year. With everything that’s going on I did think twice about not doing it and I am so glad I still went through with it. I have learned so much about vlogging, filming, editing, practicing, myself, and made memories along the way. Those are what matter the most. I will look back on these “Day in the Life” videos which I never thought I would do and love them, cherish them even. They are apart of our everyday normal lives and I can’t believe how much I have held them close this Christmas season as well as sharing them with my family that I can’t be with during the holidays. It’s been extra special.
Even though I didn’t get to see my parents for the holidays this year, spending it with two of my brothers and their amazing families was just what I needed. I was in my own country, surrounded by my own accent, with my own family around was the best present I could have ever asked for. I get so homesick sometimes especially during bad news and I feel slightly stronger and better now having that time back in the states.
The kids have made more memories with their cousins than ever before. We don’t get to get the kids together as much as we like with one brother living down south and another on the mid-east side and than me in England along with all our other siblings on the west coast, it’s hard. But when we do it’s magic. They get along so well and are totally inseparable from the start. The bigger ones take care of the little ones and it’s a really special time for them. We try to take a photo of the cousins all in a circle together. This year, we had an addition to the circle of cousins with MM as it’s been five years since the last one. I hope we can keep this tradition over the years as the kids become big kids to adults.
TOGETHER WE ARE LOVING…
Spending the holidays in America.
Watching the kids see that Santa has arrived.
Being with extended family.
Playing with our new toys for Xmas (kids and parents alike).
Playing outside in the 70 degree weather all Christmas (surreal).
Having to buy new clothes in the states because the weather turned HOT.
Starting the new year with new family adventures awaiting us.
The best part of doing this lovely family portrait project all year long is to look back and see how much the family has changed as a whole together. To look back at all the places we have traveled and taken our photo and the memories we made along the way with each capture. Obviously, the kids change the most throughout the year. MM has started off the year from a little toddler and grown into a little girl. Her voice has changed, her personality has come out, her confidence is shining and she has become her own individual instead of her brother’s shadow. A year with her brother in school and her making her own decisions and her own friends now too. It’s been so great watching her and having that special one on one time together. She starts school this coming September and I am so nervous for the empty nest feeling that will set in but also excited for the next chapter of our lives.
Don’t forget to check out the lady that started this all, Dear Beautiful and the other cohosts of Me & Mine: Capture By Lucy, Mummy Daddy Me, Tigerlilly Quinn, and Bump To Baby. We have enjoyed seeing everyone’s family captures this year, watching each one of your family’s grow, change and the many adventures you go on together and share with us. I look forward to them again in the coming new year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
