What’s in your summer beauty and makeup bag?
Do you long for those golden, sunny days ahead? The days that end with a sun kissed, freckled face, and a warm glow all over. It leaves you feeling a beautiful tired from a day of activities and fun in the sun.
Yes, me too.
There are so many things I love about summer. No layers, swimming, camping, family, slower pace of life, and more. I also perfect my summer wardrobes and beauty routines more than I do in the winter. Getting my tan legs out, showing off a new bronzer or a new summer, floral scent for my holidays just is more fun.
This summer I am changing my summer beauty up, with my new found love for glitter makeup and learning how to take better care of my skin. Recently, I have learn a few new things about makeup products so I am looking forward to putting my makeup skills to the test. I also have a love for new colors that make me think of summer. You will be catching me in more reds, burnt oranges and salmon color clothes this year. Something I hardly ever buy or wear, normally.
Here is my Summer Beauty & Makeup Bag reveal…
Let’s start with the foundation of your face. You need to always protect your skin with sunscreen and moisturizer. This is something that I have been working on so hard in my beauty routine.
Go one step further and mix a few drops of Boots’ Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops right in to your moisturizer for a tan glow. It’s great fo the face or body. You can try only 3 drops up to 12 drops and see how you get on. Every skin is different but it’s subtle and smooth and no turning orange or streaking. I don’t do with with lotions for self tanning. I forget to wash my hands or get it stuck in parts of my ankle that make me look orange dipped. So far, drops have been so easy to use with a nice medium effect. They also come in dark or light too.
I envision lots of golds, burnt oranges, and glitter pinks eyeshadows for summer. I like to concentrate on my eyes in summer. Painting them with fun, playful colors that stand out. I have always been a palette girl. It gives you more options and is easier to pack one palette rather than six different containers of eyeshadows. It also gives you the added bonus that the various colors coordinate allowing you to mix and match to your desired look. Get creative, try one color on the inside and one color on the outside. Or perhaps completely layer two colors to create your own color combo. You can be really versatile. I am loving this Boots Rose Gold Palette from E.L.F.
EYEBROWS, BLUSHES, BRONZERS and HIGHLIGHTING
I put all these together even though there are a lot of products that could fall under this category for my summer bag. But it’s summer, if you can’t sit hours in the sun to get that perfect summer kissed face, it doesn’t mean you can’t still look the part. Think about accenting those little features we sometimes (more often than not) ignore. This is a big one for me as I have never pencilled in eyebrows, I know! Can you believe it. I have never used highlighters, bronzers or even blush. I skipped the cheeks completely.
Just a little extra effort with products like Boots’ Soap & Glory Archery D-I-Y Brow Bar you can highlight and color in those brows and change your summer look dramatically. I like to do this if I am going from day to night look. Just have your DIY Brow Bar kit in your purse and quickly do it on the go when you go out from a day out. It’s the perfect day to night transition for summer beauty look.
I couldn’t believe that just coloring in my eyebrows and highlighting my brow bone changed my entire face. I look so much better. It’s like I didn’t have eyebrows (as they are completely white) my whole life and at 35 years old, I grew them in. WOW. I get so many asking me now what have I changed recently. They can’t quite pin point it.
Bronzers and highlighting zones or blush for your cheeks are another way to complete your summer look. Keep that golden, sun kissed feeling going long into the summer nights using these to accent your features. But for me, I am in the sun a lot over the summer so just doing my eyebrows is enough for the summer which is why I am highlighting it here for you. Pun intended!
I don’t go anywhere without something to pop on my lips come summer time. Think glittery, shimmering, shiny, and more for your lips and that’s what I will be toting around in my summer makeup bag.
I have fallen in love with this color from Boots’ Smashbox Gloss Angeles lipgloss. Normally I go for really pale pinks or nude colors but like I said this summer I am changing it up and going all out golden, rose gold, burnt orange, reds. This is the perfect stepping stone color for that from pinks. It’s called Actors Gild. It comes in 14 colors and I want them all!
It leaves your lips shimmering with delight, moist and pretty for that beach day out.
I say this is the most important one to pack around in your summer bag because sometimes you don’t want makeup on or you have been swimming and just popping a little lippy on can make you feel pretty and set for the beach without the effort.
For me, the more sweet, floral a scent is the better. I think every single perfume smells different on every single perfume. I have asked many friends what they are wearing as I loved the smell only to find it doesn’t smell like that on me at all. Funny thing, isn’t it? We all have our own personal smell to mix with.
Boots’ Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Bloom Eau de Toilette perfume is both my favorite scent and holds dear memories of my honeymoon too. It was the first perfume I ever smelled and felt like I could wear that every day and never get sick of it. It’s subtle and sweet. It suits me.
Everyone knows summer time is the time to get those toes out and paint those nails. With my feet permanently in flipflops and heels, my toes are on display 24/7. Even if I have to apply as I am walking out of the house, I will have my toes painted. I love Boots’ Essie nail polish colors. This one pairs well with my new summer salmon, coral, burnt orange trend. You can’t tell here but it’s shimmery and glittery too. It went on smoothly and dried fast which is a bonus for me. I have three kids and no time to wait to dry for hours without smudging.
