funny things toddlers say

At three years old now, Buba think he is one stop short of the comedy store! I swear! The funny things that come out of his mouth lately, mostly take me by surprise but others leave me laughing hours later when he has gone to bed. Or am I the only one that laughs at her toddlers.

We have spent the entire summer in the states and I only wish while vacationing I would have been better at writing them all down like I used to because the more we were there the more his sayings became American along with his now American accent which is hilarious to hear.

Here are a few to make you smile at my forever changing, growing, cheeky, funny little boy! I can’t wait until Missy Moo can join in the conversations!

“Holy Moley, look at all those buttons.” pointing at gramma’s sewing drawer

“Well go get your swimsuit on Mommy, let’s go!” eating breakfast at 7 am, Buba wanting to swim

“I can fix it, I a big boy now.” truck wheels fall off daily he asked me to fix them, day after he turned three, no more

“Because I said no, Mommy, that’s why!” when I asked him why don’t you share with your cousin

“What do you think you are doing here baby?” when he saw Missy Moo in Papa’s office, hiding behind the door…she laughed at him asking the question so he replied, “Is it very funny cause I think so.”

My parents live in the middle of the deep, dark woods, (like a gruffalo) and an hour away from any store or shop “Are we drive hiding? Is the car hiding too?”
“Are these the woods where we are hiding?”
“Is it going to be a lot of fun Mommy?” The questions never stopped every time we were in the car going some place. He was overwhelmed with all the “woods” as he calls it. Now anytime we drive near more than a few trees, he yells, “look we are back in the woods, where’s grandma & papa’s house?”

At dinner the other night talking to his Daddy, “I need to get on a plane to see my other friends.” Daddy replied, I’m not made of money. I butted in, Grandma will come visit us soon.
“Daddy you should give Grandma money!”

“If you say so dude.” he new favorite America saying, referring to Mommy as dude!

“Look, someone is about to get some pizza!” today while driving past a pizza delivery car. This one really made me chuckle. I asked, how did you know someone is getting pizza? “Because there was a pizza on the car, silly.” another favorite thing to call me and everyone else – silly.

It really is so entertaining to have a chat with a two year old, and now that he is three I think the fun is just getting started. It won’t be long until his sister joins in with funny phrases and I can’t wait to share all our crazy convos with you all.

Do your toddlers say funny, off the wall, crazy things? Call you funny nicknames or silly names? Would love to hear them, comment below!

  1. So cute! My just-turned-three yr old tells us lately, “you’re making me crazy!” I admit, she got this from me and my oft repetitions of it to her and her siblings (and their daddy too!).

  3. Bless him, that’s very sweet. I think everyone laughs at their toddlers! Even at 8, 10 and 13 we still get some unintentionally funny comments and questions from my kids, although there are a lot less than there were a couple of years ago.

    • I bet as they get older they get less but at least then you have years of embarrassing things they did and said to use again the teens! lol joking a little. hahaha Alot of the adult phrases just sound funny coming from this little person. They are always so serious about it too and when everyone laughs they don’t get why? Love it.

  4. What a great idea to keep them all written down! My son had some absolute corkers that I can’t remember a lot of. Although one of my favourites I can remember was when he started crying when asked if he wanted to try coconut as he “didn’t like hairy foods”!!! #sharewithme

    • Hahhaa that is a brilliant one, glad you remembered. Just made me snort my coffee! loved it. I forget even after ten minutes of laughing and go to retell his Dad and can’t remember it all. So I try to blog them down anytime I can to recall later. Or embarrass him when he grows up! Both good reasons.

  5. Bless his wee cotton socks! I agree I love their comic sayings. The ones I love the most are the adult phrases that sound so strange coming from a child’s mouth. Do you know what I mean Dude? hehe x

    • Those are my favorite too Mel! It’s like this little person should be able to talk that way! Almost takes you by surprise at first then you find the hilarity in it later. lol

  7. So cute – I love the funny things that toddlers say – the first one ‘holy moley look at all those buttons’ particularly made me smile. Just adorable. Jessica tells me all the time that ‘you’re a pickle Mummy’ and ‘don’t worry Mummy, be helpful!’ but my favourite is when her little sister wakes from a nap and she asks ‘did you have a nice sleep, darling?’ Precious moments 🙂

    • That is definitely a precious moment to remember. How cute! I wonder how they get these soft gestures to their siblings? Buba often says you are beautiful sweetie to his sister. So cute.

    • I love them. And I always forget them so fast too so I am so glad I write them down as much as possible. I can’t wait for MM to join in and see what they both say together. lol

  10. So funny! Like you Jenny, I so wish I could remember all the times I’ve had to use every muscle in my face to stop myself from laughing at our little bear when she’s so serious and trying so hard (or telling mummy and daddy bear off!!)

  11. Oh bless him, from the mouths of babes!!

I love this age so much, the things they come out with are just so precious. My daughter recently told me she wanted to be a ‘cookie’ after some questioning, I realised she wanted to be a brownie, ha ha!.

  12. I love the ‘if you say so dude’ one, that is very cute! I honestly think one of the best things about having children is listening to the things which they say, my two never fail to make me laugh at least once a day either because they are trying to behave like an adult and repeat something they’ve heard, or because they’ve made something up and are trying to pass it off as a legitimate saying!

    • Haha me too. Those are my favorite when they make it up and look at me like what’s wrong with you that is legit! lol So funny. They are so entertaining at this stage.

  13. Silly must be a three year old thing, because mine calls me silly all the time…it’s usually “silly willy” lol! They totally crack me up at this stage! She is also now trying to copy her big brother and tell jokes…I get A LOT of knock knock jokes that usually don’t make any sense!!!
