Cherishing life’s little moments with books, kids, and fashion

Happy Friday! Happy bank holiday weekend! Happy half term (for those kids that are off)!

Wow so much to be happy for today and let’s not forget the sunshine. It’s been amazing all week. While I wish it could be like this the whole half term peaking forward it doesn’t look as nice so we are soaking it up today as best we can. I swear it’s always sunny on the days we have a million things to do indoors. Does that ever happen to you?

It’s been a tough week where MM fell really ill and was struggling to breathe at night. I was the panicky mommy that couldn’t decide do I take her to the ER or not, the entire night. We made it to the emergency doctors in the morning after sleeping sitting straight up with her on my chest, her sleeping me worrying. I kept thinking this sounds like croup like B had when he was a baby. It was croup. They gave her steroids immediately and within 24 hours she was SO much better. I didn’t realize older children can get croup too. It never gets easier as they get older when they are ill does it?

But we are on the mend, everyone is happy for the weekend ahead. We  normally got to Spain for May half term but we were meant to be having our garden completely ripped out and landscaped, that’s now delayed two weeks so we have empty days ahead. You know what, I am excited that we have a whole half term unplanned ahead. I am sure as the days go on we will find things to do each day but it’s nice having a bit of spontaneous adventures awaiting us.

THIS WEEK I AM LOVING:

The books have been collecting dust the last few days. I just can’t find time or the energy from being up late with my littlest to read. I normally read late into the night so at the moment I am trying to catch up on zzzz’s. But I have read some fab blogs this week. I am trying to play catch up on all my favorites and find new ones too. Do you ever just get lost in a sea of blogs to read? It’s so fun. I am loving these blogs…

We have all heard the devastating news this week that has our hearts aching and our minds roaming. While I won’t make this about that I wanted give more attention to the amazing community I live in. The amazing people that jumped to help, support, aid, and come together united when it was needed most. I am proud to be apart of such a community that has become one family throughout this awful attack on our beloved children and families. I am holding my two babies as close as I can to my heart, to me physically and emotionally. We shouldn’t live in a world of violence it’s just not fair and I fear for their future.

I sit on a bench watching them spin at the play park, listening to their laughter and happiness pouring from them. They have no idea what has happened they are too young to understand or even question me on it. I soak up their smiles and their silly behavior as they climb to new heights on the jungle gym or cuddle together on a bench with nothing but pure love between them. I shared a post this week “Grateful to put our toes in the sand” all about our ordinary moments that we need to cherish as much as the big milestones as they grow up.

I have started watching Anne with an E and back to Pretty Little Liars. So much happened in the last episode that I have had to go back and watch it again to refresh. Netflix has so many shows I want to watch and catch up on. Here are a few on My List. But I am also loving Jamestown on Sky. It’s from the makers of Downtown Abbey so you know it is going to be captivating and full of amazing costumes.

I haven’t had a chance to write about my experience at Blog On, post coming soon. I know I tend to say that a lot lately life is so busy. But here is the outfit I wore for it. I wanted something light as it always gets so hot in there and it was definitely HOT this year. I went for a primark trouser and blouse set with New Look white shoes. All items were an absolute bargain.

Here is a sneak peak of my Cucumber & Ham Snack Bites, perfect for after school or a weekend snack. My kids absolutely love these and they are so fun to make.

Instagram loves to keep us all on our toes doesn’t it? While they keep changing things, it was said at Blog On that there will be a new key word intelligence to our captions and hashtags won’t be as prevalent. I worry how will that change my amazing community. It will still be there and hopefully everyone will still join in and share their amazing zoomed in captures of life with me. I would be devastated after a year and over 66,000 tags that it would just stop. So here is to these amazing feeds that keep snapping beautiful photos and sharing them with me on #LIFECLOSEUP.

  1. Poor MM, I’m so pleased she’s on the mend now. It’s so worrying when they are poorly like that.
We’ll have to meet up in the holidays! We normally go away for the second week but with the move we’re staying here now.
Enjoy the long weekend lovely xx

  2. Oh my goodness, I had no idea those trousers were from Primark – they look AMAZING! I think I spotted you a couple of times at Blog On and you looked very glam and lovely. Sorry to hear MM hasn’t been well but so glad the steriods sorted her out quickly. Keep enjoying the sunshine for as long as it lasts!

    • Oh thank you ever so much. I love a good Primark bargain. The whole outfit was from there. Oh you should have waved me down. I am awful at recognizing people and I get a bit nervous in places like that too. Sadly the sunshine is gone for now. Hoping it comes back soon. Back to parkas and boots.

  3. Aww I’m glad MM is feeling better – it’s such a worry when they’re poorly isn’t it? Love your outfit for BlogOn (and looking forward to reading more about your experience there) – I live in jeans and black so I’d never be brave enough to wear the colours that you do. You look beautiful!

    • I know I absolutely love them they are so comfortable. While I normally only go to primark for basics, holiday wear or accessories I was impressed lately with their clothes options. Yes, do join us. It’s actually a great way to fit everything in from a week and share news, or brands and things within it too. I have done it for years and it quickly became my most popular posts.

  5. I’m sorry MM’s been so ill. Blog on sounds great. I don’t like the sound of the new instagram changes you mentioned. I mainly use hashtags as a way of seeing content as I’m sick of the way the algorithm shows images.

  6. Two of my children used to get croup all the time, especially my son and it really is so scary. Weird how it comes and goes at night though isn’t it? Glad she’s on the mend. Love your outfit for Blogon…and Primark?! I never shop in there for myself but perhaps I should think again! Hope you all have a lovely, quiet half term break – sometimes we all need empty days 🙂 xx

  7. I’m so sorry to hear about MM falling ill – croup is a horrible thing for them to catch. I’m so pleased the steroids helped.

I am so impressed with the current selection of shows on Netflix – Anne of Green Gables was one of my favourite books growing up so I am very excited to see the series. I just need to find some time to watch it on my own!

  8. Oh Jenny you really have had a time of it with illness, poor you. My friend’s son suffers with croup still and he is nearly 15. He tends to suffer when the seasons change. It was lovely to see you at Blog On, and loved your outfit. But how hot was it this year, I was melting by the end of the day. Your beach shots are fab. We are off to Lytham on Friday and can’t wait for some proper seaside fun. And thank you again for picking the instagram shot of my daughter x
