May Siblings Project – First with Three!

We welcomed our baby boy just a week ago and already he has slotted in with his siblings perfectly, like he was always here. The kids are absolutely obsessed with him. They are fascinated by his tiny toes and tiny fingers. The way he coos at them already when they get close. He seemed to be absolutely obsessed with them already too as he turns his head in the direction of their voices every time straining to see what they are up to.

Each one has embraced the changes so far smoothly. MM had a slight wobble about him not being a girl again but she soon got over it when we were back to school drop offs/and pickups last Friday. She was the beaming proud sister wanting to show off her baby brother to everyone at the gates. She even insisted I take him into the principal which made me laugh and we did. Our principal is lovely as he has two little ones at home and really appreciated that exciting new sibling feeling radiating off MM.

B surprising is the worrier and second parent. Constantly being the baby’s shadow and asking if he needs anything. He panics when he spits up and shouts for me from across the room, “Mommy quick, quick he is spitting up, quick”. He tells me when the baby is hungry, when I should change him and wants to know his routine times to help watch the clock for me. It’s funny but I can see he takes it very seriously. Bless him. I keep telling him to calm down baby will be fine. He is such a lover too. You can tell he is one proud big brother.

Both of them want to hold him daily which I think is so sweet. They both want to know when he will walk or talk or crawl and then tell stories of how they will teach him what. B wants to teach him math and MM wants to teach him to eat and crawl. I think I got my helping hands for a few years yet. lol It’s been such a blessing watching them react to meeting him for the first time to getting used to his cries and whimpers in the house.

I feel so blessed to have three children. I always envisioned three or four children in my life. I sit sometimes wondering how did I create all three of these little humans. Each one has brought me joy and fulfilment over the years, months, weeks and days. Even when life gets really tough and for the past year I think it’s safe to say I have had one tough (sh*t) year with healthy problems of my own, losing my Dad recently and then welcoming a new baby into the world has turned that around. While I am still grieving for a great loss and having numerous mri scans and treatments of my own to fix me, this baby is the sunshine and warmth on all these hurdles to overcome. It has given the kids something to focus on as well. He is my little Papa’s Angel Baby. We are so in love with him.

TOGETHER THEY ARE LOVING:

Playing paddy cake or high five with their brother.

Helping Mommy think of nicknames for him. Currently Grizzle?

Showing off their new sibling at school.

Both being a big sibling now.

Planning baby brother’s learning future on who will teach him what.

Calculating how old he is on a daily basis to one year (it’s going to be a long year).

Holding their brother.

Baby is loving his siblings singing to him.

These siblings are so lucky to have each other to growing up, make memories with, love and support each other. I love the dynamics that three or more siblings bring to families. It really is so beautiful and sweet watching them together. I know it’s cheesy and cliche but weekend mornings while I feed the baby and have both MM and B on each side of me chatting away are my new favorite family times. My new favorite memories to hold to while baby is still so little and we are all still in that newborn bubble.

  1. If I wasn’t broody when I saw one of these pics on instagram the other day, I sure am now! Ovaries literally exploding over here! Such beautiful photos of your gorgeous three. Baby T certainly knows his big brother and sister already, they’re all so sweet with each other. I’m off to dream about baby outfits and new baby smell now! x
