It’s the beginning of spring and Covid-19 is still roaming the nation as we stay inside because of lockdown restrictions. The good news is rules are set to be incrementally lifted over the next few months. Just in time to soak up summer and the better weather.

Summer is a great time to enjoy the sun. Soon many of us will be looking to hold family gatherings and catch up with friends. Or just enjoy the best that the season has to offer. Therefore, here are some summer home improvements you might want to be considered.

3 summer home improvements

  • Roof coating
  • Sliding doors
  • Patio or decking

A roof coating can help with temperature regulation. While sliding doors will transform the rear of your home by maximising the available sunlight. A patio or decking is a relaxing way to enjoy the sun and catch some rays.

Roof Coating

Elastomeric roof coatings can be a great benefit not just to commercial or industrial buildings but to residential roofing. Whether you have metal, concrete or membranous roofing the paint-like coating can provide many benefits such as UV protection, mould resistance and helping to combat dampness or rot.

The roof coating prevents your roof from absorbing as much of the sun’s UV radiation. This will help your home stay cooler in the summer. Which means no need for fans or air conditioning, therefore saving on your bills. An extra layer of weather protection is also added since the coating defends against such things as hail and wind.

Sliding Doors

A common consideration when renovating a home is the inclusion of glass sliding doors. It can open up even the most cramped spaces to the glory of the sun’s light. Installing these might not be cheap but can add a lot of value to your home . They work best when adopting an open plan approach when decorating a new kitchen or dining area. Letting loads of light in acting like a conservatory style space. It becomes an excellent reading space or warm relaxation area.

The retractable nature of a sliding door means that they can be opened as much or as little as you like. As a result, you are in complete control over how much fresh air you let in during the summer. Plus you can also leave them open a little for the dog.

Patio or Decking

The pride and joy of many private gardens, the patio and/or decking make an excellent addition to any home and can provide a comfortable place to relax in the sun or in the shade with the use of patio furniture and parasols. Decking is also considered a home extension and is guaranteed to add value to your property and is a common request by home buyers.

Patios can be built with cement, flagstones or tiles. They are best left to professionals since there is a lot that can go wrong. Even when pouring concrete, while decking can be built by amateurs from instructions but this is not advised. Decking typically lasts for around 10 years. Advances in composite technology have extended this to around 20 years at a cheaper cost.

With a few summer home improvements it can really make a big difference to the way you use your home. If you looking for more eco-friendly ways to spruce up those interiors check this out here.

  1. As a new homeowner, I really appreciate this list! I hadn’t even thought about getting my patio redone! I am planning on getting my cabinets updated by a cabinet refinisher this month. Hopefully that will get them in good shape for summer!
