We are still celebrating half term and enjoyed a very chilled out bank holiday weekend just gone. Normally we are in Spain visiting friends but with our garden renovation we didn’t go this year. As our luck had it our garden then was delayed two weeks too. It left us with a bank holiday and a week half term with no plans. I have to say as much as I have itchy feet to travel somewhere and do days out, it’s been so nice spending time with the kids at home. It’s the very last half term I will have where MM is still at preschool two days and I get one on one time with B. She will start school in September and half terms will be for the both of them from here on out. It’s an era coming to an end.
While some days have been absolutely gorgeous with sunshine and we have been playing, swimming, walking, exploring, and riding bikes out in it, other days have been rain and cloudy. Daddy got home early yesterday to have a big family evening in with us. He doesn’t get to take half term off normally so it was a lovely treat. We decided to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, on Netflix. Make it a pizza and netflix binge night!
What better way to be inspired to make pizza than by the movie you are watching. The kids absolutely love getting in the kitchen and helping me out with baking and cooking. They normally don’t like regular pizza so we went with a garlic bread pizza version for this recipe. What kid doesn’t like mini meatballs too? The kids were so excited when I told them we were going to put meatballs on our pizza like the ones that fall out of the sky in the movie. I love homemade pizza so much more than restaurant or store bought. We like to put less cheese and more toppings and bake it crispy. I was impressed with the kids working together to put together our family pizza too.
I love this photo above she is a baker in the making like her momma and grandma. They were concentrating so hard on sprinkling the cheese just right. Clearly they have watched me food style so much that they have the ocd of decorating food like I do. I don’t think it’s a bad skill to pass down. Do you?
But enough chatter about our pizza making skills …. what about the pizza?
- 1 Sainsbury's garlic pizza bread
- 20 Sainsbury's mini meatballs
- 1 red onion
- 1 large tomato
- 1 mini jar pizza tomato sauce
- 1 small package Sainsbury's grated mozzarella cheese
- rocket salad to serve
Bake meatballs on 200 degrees C for 5 minutes on foiled cookie sheet
Spoon pizza tomato sauce in the middle of garlic Pizza bread
Sprinkle one layer of grated mozzarella cheese
Slice tomatoes very thin and spread on top of cheese
Slice red onion very thin layers and pull apart sprinkle on top
Cut meatballs in half and place on top of toppings
Sprinkle a thin layer of grated mozzarella cheese on top
Bake for 10 minutes on 200 degrees C or until cheese is melted
Serve with rocket or spinach salad or red chilli flakes for a spicy kick
Our pizza making party was inspired by the release of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 on Netflix.
The kids go for the little tomato and meatball slices, Daddy opts for the rocket salad on top and Mommy goes for the extra spicy slices adding red chilli flakes. Pizza is great to make a variety of flavors out of one pizza. My kids seems to try anything if they have made it themselves rather than just putting it in front of them and them questioning what’s in it. I have found if I want them to eat a variety of foods without questioning it and bribery, I have to get them involved in the cooking so they see exactly how they food was made. I love having little helpers in the kitchen.
It was getting dark outside by time we sat down to watch our movie and eat our pizza so this photo is slightly grainy below but it is our Netflix binge night memory captured. The kids wanted their little table from upstairs brought down to eat and watch tv at while Daddy and I snuggled right behind them on the sofa watching. One day I hope to have a big enough sofa we can all snuggle up on together to watch a movie especially as they get older. The kids have already asks me what movie we are watching next on Netflix for family night in and what food we will cook to go with it. I think I have started something with them that I might not be able to finish. I best get creative quick!
What would your Netflix movie inspired pizza look like??

That looks so tasty!
I absolutely love homemade garlic bread pizza. It’s so tasty and I can make any toppings I want to go with it. This was especially exciting to the kids and watching the movie together about meatballs. They were in so many fits of giggles while making it.
