Happy Friday Everyone!
I really don’t know where the days are going lately. I feel like I was just writing last week’s Funny Phrase Day Friday, and here I am again. Mr P took this week off work, so it’s been a great week full of quality family time. And with that, Buba was in good form, providing Mommy with some great funnies this week.
Buba’s attitude has emerged from the depths of his 2 1/2 year old self. It’s sassy, it’s brassy, and not at all classy. Now, I have a toddler that is talking back at every opportunity! Conversations go like this…
Me: “Eat your carrots, please”.
Buba: “I eat my potatoes FIRST!”
…potatoes now gone…
Me: “Please eat your vegetables”.
Buba: pointing a the tiny spec of potato on his plate, “I eat MY POTATOES FIRST, Mommy,” licking the last spec off his plate.
…trying to take his unfinished dinner away because he is clearly not eating it…
Buba: “That’s my plate, let me eat FIRST”.
Me: “Well make up your mind”.
…after dinner…
Me: “Do you need to go potty?”
Buba: “I just do this first, Mommy,”tapping his finger on his cars.
That was his sassiness, in comes his brassiness and it’s in full force this week. He doesn’t like being told off anymore than the next kid, but lately he has started to talk back.
Me: barely tapping on his hand for touching something he isn’t supposed to, “Don’t touch that”.
Buba: “That’s my HAND, Mommy!”
Me: “Yes, I know but your hand got you in trouble”.
Buba: “Don’t touch MY hand, MOMMY”.
It took every ounce in my body not to burst out laughing or start shouting for back talking. I just stood staring back at him in bewilderment.
My favorite moment this week, was when I caught him pushing his little sister over and running off, while she was left screaming her head off. Once I finally caught the little tot, I popped his hand as I am a firm believer in popping them in whatever got them in trouble, not their bum. I don’t smack or hit, just popping them on the hand saying don’t do that and then explaining why. Its not the best tactic, I will admit my parenting skills could improve here but this is what happened.
Me: “You don’t push your sister, say sorry and kiss her!”
Buba: “You kiss my arm!” pointing to his arm where I popped him.
Me: “You say sorry to Missy Moo, you hurt her”.
Buba: “You say sorry to MY arm, FIRST!”
I was godsmacked. Did he really just say that? I even had to look over at Mr P for reassurance that I really just heard him right. I have no idea where the “first” came from, but it’s absolutely driving me nuts. It’s highly entertaining, but annoying nevertheless.
But with Buba’s sassiness, brassiness, and back talking, he still holds a sweeter side. I was baking his special cupcakes, (no, not that kind) the kind that is “free-from” because of his allergies. I started to frost the first cupcake and Buba came bouncing in the kitchen.
Buba: “What you doing Mommy?”
Me: “Making you cupcakes”.
…putting a bit of frosting on my finger and in his mouth…
Buba: “hmmm, what’s that?”.
Me: “It’s frosting!”
Buba: “I think my mouth needs more”….
seconds later… “and maybe this hand and this one too”.
The poor kid has only tasted frosting or cake a handful of times. He was in true heaven. Kept asking me for more of the “stuff for his mouth” all evening. I caved in a few times as it was a special treat for doing so well with potty training this week. No accidents in a week, I think that deserves a lot of cupcakes and frosting!
Lastly, I will leave you with my new added bonus…
Things my toddler is scared of…
Buba is scared of the wind blowing in his face.
Buba is scared of the vacuum cleaner.
