Food styling, first curls, and fantasy reading #littleloves

Why hello FriYAY!!!!

I actually am so relieved it’s the weekend. Normally, our weekends are bursting with plans, social engagements, children’s parties, and running around with our heads cut off. However, this weekend the diary is blank. My bullet journal is yet to be written in on this weekend which feels slightly magical. I know that sounds sad but I can’t wait to just stay in my pjs as long as I want come Saturday morning. Crawl out and make pancakes and watch cartoons with the kids curled up in my lap or under the den we always make when we have no plans to go out.

It’s been a weird week, normal busy so nothing too stressful in the ways of the kids, house chores or hubby but work seems to be a bit weird this week. Feelings of failure and needing to do more, and figure out what the next step is – has been plaguing me. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the end of the year and I feel those thoughts of new year’s resolutions needing to be ready to put to action and I am not prepared or what. There is just the gut feeling I am not doing all that I should be doing right now. Do you ever feel this way with work as a blogger?

THIS WEEK I AM LOVING…

This week, I am reading The Woman Who Stole My Life by Marian Keyes. I started it before the summer and only got a chapter in and left for America and forgot all about it. It’s the only book in the house at the moment that I haven’t read as I am in need of a huge book shop. I am looking at a few fancy series like the Grisha Trilogy and Red Queen & Glass Sword books by Victoria Aveyard. I clearly been watching too much Game of Thrones and these fantasy books are appealing to me at the moment. They also all came highly recommended if you like this kind of reading.

Have you heard “When Parenting Gets Hard” there isn’t always an answer or a time frame. It can come at anytime during your parenting experience and it can either sneak up on you like it did me or it can slowly show it’s evil side. I laid in bed this week wondering how complex it is to be a parent. If you laid down and start really analyzing it (I don’t recommend) and(probably over analyzing) it can be overwhelming. I shared my recent 10 days of horror experience of my sweet little girl’s evil side coming out. Catch it again here

I watched the kids running through the Corn Maze this past weekend. I wasn’t sure if they would get into it or be totally freaked out in it, but I was pleasantly surprised they were having a blast. You can sneak a peak here at our Corn Maze Adventures.

I will let MM take the spotlight this week…she wore this beautiful denim dress from Next along side her fuchsia pink light up shoes from Clarks and her new Yellow Mini Boden duffel coat that I am just in love with. Sorry folks, my instagram is going to be full of this beauty both daughter and coat all winter long. Of course, after three years the infamous duck is still in hand.

While its not the clearest photo from my ig stories this week, I had to save it. MM came in while I was curling my hair one morning (strutting a halloween style necklace) and asked if I would curl her hair. She was in awe of her lots of curls after I was done. Sadly she has fine silk hair so it fell out two minutes later but it was a bonding experience and I look forward to playing and doing her hair more as she grows up.curls

I have been baking and making all sort of things this week. I don’t want to spoil another surprise for you all coming up next week but I have also been making a huge effort in my food photography class I am taking. We have been playing with food stories this week using colorful treats and mini meringues. Here are two example of my styling…so much to learn, so little time. What are your thoughts on my food styling and captures? Comment below…open to all suggestions. On to real food next week, stay tuned. For those that absolutely love instagram and food, I have a new account just for my food captures @letstalkfoodstyle using #letstalkfoodstyle hashtag. When I get done with this course and get more on my feet about my food styling and photography I will be starting a food styling linky here on Let’s Talk Mommy. Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in joining in.

    • It was so much fun. I wasn’t prepared to start doing her hair like that until she was older as she normally doesn’t sit still but she was so good. It was a good bonding moment. I look forward to more of it soon. Happy weekend to you too.

  1. I’ve read that book Jenny, it’s good – persevere! I also need more book and am going on holiday tomorrow so shall be stocking up at the airport! Loving MM in yellow. She looks more and more like you every day! Did you read the blog post I shared on my Little Loves post this week? I think you might find it helpful re: tough parenting. It’s hard sometimes isn’t it? But that proves you’re doing something right. Hang in there sister!

    • I love buying books at the airport don’t know why but I do. They probably cost more and are older selection but I have always waited until I travelled to buy my holiday books. I did read the post you shared thank you lovely. Have a great holiday.

    • I know it’s just too silky and fine at the moment I think as she gets older the curls will hold. I have naturally curly hair so they stay in better. I agree, weekends with no plans can be the very best ones. I have thought about buying this coat in yellow for myself I love it so much. It does come in my size too. Decisions, decision. Although both of us walking around in bright yellow might set alarms off.

  2. Those curls! I love the curls in your hair too, I remember you doing it in our hotel room. Oh honey I’m sorry you’ve been feeling a bit down. You have a wonderful blog and I’m sure things will be back on track soon. I love your linky idea. Your food styling is always so pretty. Have a lovely weekend x #littleloves

    • Thanks KA, I don’t know if it would take off or if anyone would join me. I think I need to put more feelers out there for it. I do miss having a linky in general. A community to chat with and feel apart of. Wish I had never give up on SWM. Well, what goes down must come up right. Christmas is just around the corner. That always makes me happy and smile.

  3. MM looks so adorable in the denim dress and I love the colour of her coat. How gorgeous does she look with curls! She looks so much like you! • Thanks AM, I still can’t see her looking like me as much as I do my son but everyone says it so it must be true. lol Her hair is growing so long makes her look so mature now. Parenting I guess is like a roller coaster it goes up and down and sometimes it goes down a long time and sometimes it goes up for a long time and then balances out in the end. hahaha

    • Thanks Stacie, so kind of you. I have a lot to learn in food styling and photography department. Got to keep practicing and working on it. Someday maybe I will think they are amazing. Always our own worse critics. I agree, buying books is fantastic. I now have about six to get through. Last me until next year at this rate, never have time to read them.

  5. I hope you had a lovely relaxing weekend. We all need a weekend with no plans sometimes, they are often my favourites!

    • Just wish the curls stayed, her fine silky hair can’t hold them yet. Love yellow and I think she is obsessed with it as much as I am. It was a lovely weekend minus a trip to the ER but hey that’s typical B style. Cut his hand open on the door. We really must take all doors out of our house they cause him so much grief.

  6. When did MM’s hair get so long, and it looks gorgeous with the curls in. I totally agree about how hard this parenting journey can be. When my son hit 11 we were faced with a huge learning curve. Thankfully the curve has been ironed out now, but boy it’s tough sometimes isn’t it hun. Keep smiling lovely x

    • I know her hair is coming in thick and fast I can’t believe it. It’s more silky and straight than my own corse curly hair so I am learning how to deal with it. lol Thanks lovely. It really can be a challenge at various stages throughout their lives I can imagine even long after they move out. hahaha

  7. Oh gosh, I know exactly what you mean about not feeling as if you are doing everything you should be doing when it comes to blogging. This is how I have felt all week and I’ve been kicking myself for not planning content in advance. Oh well, I am just going pause for now and start again on Monday. Xxx #LittleLoves

    • Nothing wrong with pausing and starting again come Monday. I swear I always have content in my head and things I want to share or vlog and I just never ever find the time to get it all caught up and do it exactly how I want to. Things always get in the way or come up and it gets pushed back further and further. Hoping I will get back on track after half term this week.

  8. Oh wow those meringues look amazing! We never made it to a corn maze, hopefully we will fit it in this weekend, but if not we’ll have to wait until next year! xx

    • Oh I really hope you got to fit it in because the kids absolutely loved it. So much fun to for the adults. We kept jumping out scaring each other like big kids. haha Can’t take us anywhere I swear. Definitely next year if not.

  9. I really love reading your Little Loves posts each week Jenny. MM’s curls look so sweet although i know what you mean about silky fine hair- mines the same and curls never stay in. Your food styling and photography course sounds interesting. I’d love to do more of that but I don’t really have the eye for styling food. What’s the course you’ve done? Will check out your other Instagram! Amelia x

    • Thanks lovely that’s so kind of you to say. Glad you like them. It’s a great way to round up the little things we should appreciate and do each week. It’s surprising when I look back sometimes at all I do in one week. Way too busy. I didn’t think I had the eye either but once you learn a few tricks and things to follow it’s so fun.
