Me & Mine Family Project End of the Year December 2017

I have been documenting our family photos, each month, on this blog since I started it four years ago. Four years of capturing how much each one of us has grown and changed together as a family. It’s such a lovely project to get involved in because it motivates you to step out from behind the camera and make sure you are documenting yourself in your family adventures and not just the family around you.

This year has been a huge year for us in so many ways. Big hardships started out the year when my Grandma passed away at Xmas last year and with my Dad’s stomach cancer. A summer long trip to America that we take every year to see my parents, had us watching him recovery from his stomach being completely removed and trying to learn how to eat without one. It’s a real eye opener in the scheme of life on what really matters and what doesn’t when you experience a loved one suffering so much and losing another. I work hard each and every day on this blog and sometimes I get into a fog of what I am stresses about and I take a step back now to see the bigger picture. It’s not even worth the stress of blog stats.

But it wasn’t all hardships and sad times this year, we had huge news when we arrived back from America to find we were expecting baby number 3! An unexpected surprise to us all but a joyous one to celebrate. The kids have had a great time announcing our pregnancy to their own shock and being apart of the gender reveal too.

I am so excited to continue this project throughout next year and watch my family of four change into a family of five. If I thought getting two kids and a husband in a photo each month was hard I can’t imagine getting all five of us in there and looking half decent without any nose pickers or grumpy Daddy in the mix. But I have wanted this baby for years and it’s finally happening surprise or not we are all so excited.

We love our family traditions throughout the year. With our summers in America to our matchign pjs at Christmas time, it’s great to look back on those traditions as time goes on. I love having my blog to do just that. At first, I started blogging as a way to share our every day family life with my family back home since I am an expat and don’t get to see them but once a year. It quickly turned into a huge passion into a career and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. I love what I do and I love that my job motivates me to capture us all together each step of our family journey. I know I will look back on moments like this big or small and be able to recalling feelings, emotions and moments that I might have all but forgotten if I hadn’t captured them in photos and videos here. I also love that it gives me things to constantly strive for and learn. This year, I have learned more about photography moving to manual mode, learning photo shop to help my photos, practiced more filming and vlogging on my youtube channel and even taught myself a bit of coding working on my new site design all on my own. I love to learn and I love learning about things that will help my business grow and lucky for me in the process it’s all surrounded by my family.

While these are the best angle of photos of myself, I look twice the size I really do in person so no I haven’t gained 50lbs already in five months of pregnancy, hubby is sitting far behind me which makes me appear bigger than everyone in the photo and my pjs were purchased before I was pregnant and are a size 6… with pregnancy boobs fully taking over me they were beyond tight!!!! hahaha Hubby may have given up on the matching pj family photos but I wanted a few snaps of my two kids and bump, just me and my kids too. I absolutely adore the one of them both touching and talking to my bump which is a daily occurrence. And the one below snuggled under my arms, I feel so blessed to be having three kids soon. While I know it will be chaos at times, I couldn’t think of a better life and anything better than more kids to fill my heart with love and joy.

I am already begging hubby for a fourth which I know I will never get him to consider it. I think in fact I might send him screaming to the doctor for the snip if I don’t stop it. But I love big families and having no family in this country it just feels right to grow our own little family. There is so much love shared in a big family. The kids are so excited for this next family chapter in our lives.

The kids have really grown up this year too. MM started school and is a completely different child. Her shyness is still there at times but mostly she will talk to anyone now. B is so great with his homework and continues to amaze us on what he wants to learn. He is great with teaching his sister too. We have reading nights where all four of us just sit and read our own books now. I secretly look around at us all and love every minute of it. We are all bookworms. The kids have math challenges with Daddy who is a human calculator. I am only jealous my two kids can do math in their heads faster than I can, it was my favorite subject in school. Pen to paper though of course.

Both of our kids were in the Christmas Nativity together, it will be the only year they are together in the same play. It was a special one and I thought the best one so far since B started school himself. It was great looking back and forth across the stage at each one as they did their parts. B was Joseph and and MM was an angel and both sang their hearts out. It still feels weird and new not having MM at home with me. I find somedays I think, oh what baby class do we have on today, and then realize she is in school. I miss it but I know it will go quick and come May I will have another little partner in crime for baby classes during the day. I also will still be working which will be an adjustment as I was on maternity leave with B and MM so there are new challenges awaiting me next year.

Overall, it’s been a good year. We have ended it with a very, very quiet Christmas, my birthday on boxing day and new years at home in the UK which we have never done. We have recharged our batteries. Both Mr P and I have set our own business targets and started another business adventure separately from our two companies together. I am hoping this next year will be the best one ever for us all.

My favorite thing about this project besides the actual photos of our family growing and changing each month is putting them all together and seeing how much we have all changed over a whole year of documenting our lives together.  Take a look at 2017 below…. a whole year of little tikes becoming big kids. And the biggest change of all half way through the grid, I got pregnant and our third baby is growing in the last four photos. Next year, we will watch our family photos really change welcoming a new baby in May 2018.

  1. Oh they are gorgeous pictures – I love the matching PJs and I’m seriously starting to wonder whether I could talk John into it for next year! 2018 is going to bring so many wonderful new adventures for you – and I can’t wait to see your Siblings and Me and Mine photos expand by one – the last month as a family of four and the first as a family of five are some of my most treasured pictures, and I know I wouldn’t have a picture of all of us including a days old little boy if we didn’t do Me and Mine – I’ll always be glad that we do!

  4. I love this project. As you said it can be stressful at times to get everyone to look at the camera at the same time and not one pulling silly faces or quite often daddy’s eyes closed and then we have to start all over again.
It’s lovely to hear how both are getting on so good in school. Here is to another year of great family snaps. xx #meandmine
