Last updated on May 5th, 2024 at 03:19 pm

A house will provide you with some shelter, but a home is where you and your family will weather the storms in life. If you feel as though your home isn’t quite as homely as it could be, then there are a few things that you can do to try and bring everything together. Home decorating doesn’t have to be stressful or overwhelming. At a time, everyone wants to revamp, remodel, and redecorate their home, I wanted to share my ultimate guide to home decorating based on our experience of forever changing our own home.

Use my ultimate guide to home decorating below:

Showcase Memories

Frame your personal photos and also frame some photos of your family and your friends too. When you do this, you will be able to inject some character into the space you have. If you are not quite sure how to showcase your photos, then it is more than possible for you to create a gallery of several photos within your home. You can also blow up some of your older pictures and hang them individually. If you are not quite sure how to get the most out of your photos then consider having some bigger than others, and some in different colours. Gallery walls are a great way to showcase memories of your family and friends together. When you do, you will soon find that you are able to make your home feel that bit more homely.

Focus on Floor Finishes

If you walk into an interior which is not finished then you may notice the floor. You may find that the empty floor accentuates the emptiness of the room, and that everything echoes. If you want to get around this then you need to invest in some good textiles. When you add some textiles, you will be able to make your home feel way more friendly. It’s helpful for you to lay a rug underfoot so you can warm up your interior while also defining the space. The great thing about doing this is that it adds an extra layer of personality too.

Storage

Functionality is a huge component of any property. Often, when you are trying to decorate your home, you may end up focusing on the design aesthetic. When you do this, you will soon see that the need for storage becomes an afterthought. If you want to get around this then you need to invest in storage that is visually appealing, as it adds another texture to your space.

A timber console, an open bookcase or even handmade baskets can all add to your home. They also give you the chance to display any items that might be treasured to you. If you have a garage why not invest in a garage door remote? That way you can utilize your garage for storage and make it into a more usable space. We recently did this and it’s amazing the space we have now.

Utilise Wall Space

If you are short on floor space, then why not utilise your walls? When you do, you will soon find that you can add interest and that you can also greatly boost the overall functionality of your interior space. Simple shelving can work in your favour, along with L-shaped brackets. If you arrange spaces like this with personal items, then you will be able to make your space much more visually impactful and that you can also bring it all to life with ease. Like I did recently, with our laundry room.

Home Accessories

It doesn’t matter whether you decide to opt for a scented candle to make you feel at home or whether you just want a small collection of mementos from a holiday you have been on. If you fill a space with sentimental objects, then this will make your house feel like home. When you do invest like this, you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to not only bring the personality of your home out, but for you to also reap the rewards in terms of the comfort that these home accessories bring.

Creating a personalized atmosphere in your home doesn’t have to be limited to sentimental objects and scented candles. Custom jute rugs, for instance, offer a natural and eco-friendly option for enhancing your home’s decor. Their earthy texture and versatile design make them a great addition to various rooms. You can consider a wide range of custom jute rugs in your living room to add a touch of rustic charm or use one in your bedroom to create a cozy and warm atmosphere. Additionally, these rugs work well in dining areas, providing a durable and stylish surface under your dining table. Their neutral tones complement various interior styles, making them a fantastic choice for homeowners seeking sustainable and aesthetically pleasing decor solutions.

Display some Flowers

A stunning vase of flowers can bring life to your interior and it also shows that you are house proud too. If you feel like some of your rooms lack personality, then sometimes arranging flowers can lift your space considerably. If you are not able to get some freshly cut flowers, then why not try and opt for some indoor plants? The great thing about indoor plants is that they only need to be watered once a week or so.

Hang some Art

Home Art is another way for you to add some personality to your home. When you invest in artwork, you will soon see that it adds colour and that you are also able to push the boundaries of your décor. If you are not quite sure which art to go with then don’t worry, you are not alone. So many people find themselves in the same situation that you are in right now. If you take your time and make sure that you are exploring the cheaper options that are out there then you are bound to find something within your budget. It’s very helpful to make sure that you are focusing on what you like, as opposed to what people think is famous. If you don’t like Van Gogh’s sunflowers then try and avoid buying this image, even if you have seen it in spectacular homes in the past.

Paint and Wallpaper

Sometimes a new splash of paint will make you feel as though your home is truly yours. If you haven’t decorated since you moved in or if you want to make a positive change then this is a great place to start. The great thing about painting is that you can get the whole family involved and when you do, you can then do it as a project. You will soon find that you are able to bring everyone together, and it’s a great way for you to learn some new skills.

If you want to learn how to wallpaper, then what better way to do that than in your own home? Little things like this can breathe some new life into your home and you would be surprised at how much it could help you to revitalize older rooms. If you want to go for a colour that is a bit more bold, then remember that this is more than possible, just make sure that you take into account the rest of the home and the way that it makes you feel before you decide on your end-color.
