If you are lucky enough to have your own garden space, no matter how big or small, you have a place where you can retreat to when the hubbub of the house gets too much or you want to relax with the simple sights and sounds of nature. Or, at least that’s what you should have.

Many people, for whatever reason, do not make enough of their gardens. They don’t invest time. Money or, effort into helping them reach their full potential. This means their gardens can be anything but relaxing. This is such a shame when, as you can see below it’s so easy to make your garden more relaxing.

1. Lay a patio

If you don’t already have one, hiring a patio builder to artfully lay a few slabs is a really good idea. Why? Because it gives you a very defined area for sitting and relaxing. A patio will keep your outdoor furniture flat, which means you will be able o sit comfortably for longer.

2. Plant aromatic herbs and flowers

Our sense of smell is extremely powerful. Certain smells like citrus have the power to energize us, while others like lavender, can make us feel relaxed. So, if you want a more relaxing garden, it makes sense to use the power of smell.

Plant lavender, chamomile, jasmine, and lemon balm around the areas you are most likely to sit and relax. Then, every time you take a breath, your body will start to relax a little bit more. The wonderful colours and shapes of the plants and flowers will be easy on the eye too.

3. Clear the clutter

A cluttered environment leads to a cluttered mind. So, if you want your garden to be relaxing, get rid of anything you do not need in the garden or which does not enhance its appearance. If that means getting a shed to hide the kids’ toys in or whatever, do it. You’ll be amazed at just how much more peaceful and uncluttered the garden can be.

4. Install a water feature

Water features are a great addition to any garden. For one thing, the sound of running water is an extremely relaxing one. For another thing, that running water sound will help to muffle other, less pleasing sounds, like passing traffic, quite well. Just makes sure, that if you have children, you buy a water feature that is completely child-safe and that children are always supervised around it.

5. Install a privacy fence

If your garden is easily viewable by neighbours on both sides, it can be difficult to relax. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to install a privacy fence that will keep prying eyes away. Want something a bit more attractive? Pots of bamboo can be placed along the perimeter and as they grow tall and proud, they will give you crave too. Just be warned, bamboo will grow very high very fast, so some maintenance may be required.

As you can see, a more relaxing garden really is within reach. So, what are you waiting for?
