A newborn baby photoshoot

My beautiful little squish is all snuggled here fast asleep. I wasn’t sure how a newborn baby photoshoot would exactly go after I didn’t book it the first week and the second week we had to reschedule do to illness. Come the end of the third week, he started unraveling and stretching out. If you have a baby you will know what I am talking about during those first few weeks where your baby is curled up tight from being in your tummy. It’s the cutest thing. But be hold my lovely friend and photographer, Katherine Hancock worked her magic and somehow got baby boy asleep, time and time again while we changed outfits, positions and backdrops. Talk about having patience is a complete understatement in her job. She is brilliant at what she does, just look at these. I had to share some of my absolute favorites and document this moment, my last baby.

Baby boy has a lot of firsts on his list even though he is my last and third baby. We had a 4D scan experience that was so amazing that I never experiences with his older siblings. I got a water birth that I have always wanted but never could with the first two either. I love that my last baby still has firsts. It’s still such a separate and amazing journey to experience. It makes it that much more special too.

I felt a sea of emotions while he was snuggled up getting his photo taken knowing he wouldn’t stay this smaller for long. Time seems to go faster and faster with each child and with each year. I sit and wonder where the time went when I look at my older two who now seem so grown up. It’s amazing how bringing home a newborn can really make the other kids seem instantly bigger, maturer, older, and different. My five and six year old now loo at him with awe and want to hold him, kiss him, sing to him and it’s so beautiful watching them start to form a sibling bond with him. They have been so great with him already.

I probably soak in a lot more this third time around than I did with my first two only because I have him one on one with me at home while the other two are in school. I stop to appreciate the cuddles he needs or the comfort he screams for. It’s nice knowing beforehand that he is my last so I can inhale that sweet baby head smell that lingers only for a bit. I can document as much of his milestones because with each one it will be my last time experiencing it. This is my last baby in the house and last baby journey. I want to remember as much as possible from it. This time I have the added beauty that I was blogging the entire time from when I found out I was pregnant to now. I wasn’t lucky to have documented my first two pregnancies having only started this blog five years ago. I hope my children love reading back about our life and what we got up to here. I also hope they understand how much each and every single one of them played a special role in making my life complete. I feel so blessed to have three children.

My children make me feel whole and have a purpose. I can’t wait to see what they each do in their lives, where they will go, watch them get married, have children of their own and the careers they will choose. It’s a great adventure being a parent, I never take that for granted either. Even when all three at screaming and I am tired and don’t feel good, they are my rock. On a Sunday morning, we snuggle them in our bed, all of us together, it’s no better place to be than in that moment every week.

This little man changes the dynamics to our family from four to five. He may have gave us a surprise of his welcoming and caused us to seek new car wheels but just look at that face, it’s worth buying a new car so we can all fit into for him. He has slotted into our family routine perfectly. I always thought my daughter, the middle little, was always born to be a middle child. She is the perfect second mother to little baby boy here too. Even my eldest son dotes on him continuously with hugs and kisses. As my lovely friend, Lucy calls them, bookend boys. How lucky is my daughter to have a big brother and little brother.

Isn’t there something so adorable and timeless about little toes? No, just me. I can’t get enough of his little toes. I kiss them nonstop when I can. It soothes him when he is crying to rub the bottom of them. While he sleeps I play “this little piggy went to…” with them gently. I know each week he grows bigger and changes at this stage. The newborn baby features are disappearing before my very eyes. He is getting that baby chub that is so cute, you just want to his pitch cheeks. I am so grateful to have these snaps to look back and remember how squished he first was when we brought him home. How small he was and innocent. How he smelled. How soft his fluffy hair was like cotton wool. These are the tiny things I want to take in and lock in my memory forever. So when he is a stink teenager that I want to shout at or an adult that would rather hang with friends than his old mom, I can remind myself how it all began.

I will remember the first coos, the first smiles and smirks, first giggles that surprised him as much as they surprised us. I will remember them all in my heart, in my mind and if those fail to remember I can read them here.

I truly recommend getting newborn photos done if you are having a baby or just had a baby. It’s so bittersweet to document them like this. I will rave about my friend Katherine from Katherine Hancock’s Photography based in Chorley. She is amazing. She really works with what you want, the baby and getting them settled and happy and making you feel so comfortable too. I am calling her the baby whisper. Now if only she came around the house about 7pm during witching hour when he is screaming his head off. hahaha It was a lovely experience with baby boy. One I will remember and recall here.

  1. These are just so precious! I never did this with either of mine and I really do regret it now. How on earth did he stay asleep through all those outfit changes though?!! x

    • It was his two hour nap time, warm room and changed him very carefully while he slept. lol I was the very same had never done it with my first two and since I know he was my last I really wanted to do all the things I didn’t get to first two times around. We did 4d scan, water birth, newborn photoshoot this time and it was all on my list. So I am really grateful to tick those things off. I just need to get some printed for the walls now. lol
