This month something happened that was so special for my two, a SNOW DAY! Having only ever touched, seen, and played in snow both when they were babies, at a time they wouldn’t remember. We woke last weekend to find that there was white stuff falling from the sky. It was a Saturday, I normally let the kids sleep in pass 9 am but I didn’t want it to stop and they miss out or worse melt away.
I only had to lean over and whisper into my daughter’s ear, “psst, it’s snowing”. Normally, she would cover her head with her duvet and tell me she wants to keep sleeping but she startled me, by jumping up and out of her bed faster than I have ever seen her move. Her brother must have been wondering why his normally sleeping sister was running across the landing, shouting, SNOW, he popped up to meet us sleep eyed at the window.
“How does it fall from the sky, Mommy?”
“Is it like rain?”
“Why doesn’t it always snow like at Grandma’s house?”
“Can we play in it?”
“Can we eat it?”
The questions flooded out of them full and fast. B even attempted to open the front door and run out in it with his slippers on and no shoes or coat. I had to explain snow is very cold and we needed to wrap up quick so we could go play in it before it melted. It doesn’t last long in the UK, it’s only the third or fourth snow fall in ten years I have lived here that we have been home to see and play in it.
Their faces were picture perfect when I taught them how to make snow balls and roll a snowman. They were completely taken back when they realized how it burns your hands it’s so cold to hold. We had a lot of first snow lessons. It wasn’t long before a snowball fight started up between the kids and Daddy and even Mommy and her camera got a few hits along the way. It just felt magical and amazing, like we were in our own winter wonderland bubble just the four of us. It’s a day that will be marked in my heart and memories forever hence why so many siblings photos below. Sorry. But their laughter and squeals were at an all time high, mesmerized by the snow fall. I really wanted to document their expressions and happiness in it. B wouldn’t stop eating it either. Off the ground, off the seats, out of the air, nonstop tongue out. EEEK.
TOGETHER THEY ARE LOVING:
Do I need to even mention snow after all these snaps?
Snow, snowballs, snowball fights, sledding.
Doing the Christmas Nativity Play together (first and only time together).
Christmas & Birthday parties,
Seeing Santa’s Grotto and Santa at Farmer Ted’s.
Christmas Fair at School.
Decorating the house.
Writing their letters to Santa.
Sharing their new sibling Gender Reveal.
What a year it’s been for these two siblings. They have really grown and bonded together in ways I never thought two siblings would. I only remember constantly fighting and arguing with my brother and it wasn’t until we got older we got so close. But these two really are inseparable. Even lately they have begun to bicker or argue over things as MM finds her independence and voice they still are the first to try to make the other stop crying or help each other out. They continue to watch over and hang out at school. It’s the only year together in infants to play together and see each other at school until next year when B starts juniors.
These two have a huge change coming to the dynamics of our family next Spring, a baby brother will be added to the siblings mix. I can’t wait to see how each one bonds together and separately with their new sibling. I wonder how it will change or affect their relationship too.
Until then, let us take a moment to look back over the last 12 months of these two siblings before there are three! This is my favorite part of this project when I come to the end of the year and get to see how much they have grown and changes over the year, together. They both have matured so much and have become so much more independent.

I’m really want us to have snow, but we just got rain! My girls don’t have an memory of the last time it snowed. Gorgeous fun photos. What a brilliant year its going to be for you all next year. x
Adorable photos Jenny. They were loving the snow for sure. We didn’t get any unfortunately. The collage at the end of the project is always the best isn’t it?

Oh your two have really grown up this past year, especially MM. I do love the photos of them playing in the snow. How magical to capture their very first experience of snow. We had a similar reaction and had to go outside as quickly as possible to play in it. It doesn’t last long but it’s fun while it lasts. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas x #siblingsproject
