It’s been a whole year of thinking about what I wanted to do with MM’s big girl bedroom for her third birthday. While it doesn’t look like I have done much to it, it has felt like decision after decision needing to be made and waiting for things to arrive. I am not one for patience so this has been a project that has frustrated me. Starting with waiting weeks for a bed frame to arrive as I fell in love with this one with a heart shape cutout at the top and bottom of it. If you haven’t seen my sneak peak bedroom reveal on instagram through the heart please take a look here. Other items I sat waiting for and buying online were all the little bits that make it function that you can’t see. Single bed protectors, duvet inserts, pillows, sheets, on top of the themed items I have been longing to pull out and set up for her as a surprise.
Even though as hard as I tried, MM’s third birthday fast approached and a few things still weren’t finished but I couldn’t wait any longer you can watch her room being revealed to her in her birthday video. She was ecstatic and I think she spent a good hour in her room before she would come out of it. I have never seen her so happy and light up as much as she did when she realized her cotbed was gone.
The biggest decision I had was whether or not to paint that bright fuchsia pink wall a different color or wallpaper it as I was pretty sure it would bleed through a lighter color. When I did some pinterest searching to see what I wanted to style as her theme, I realized this vibrant fuchsia pink has MM’s personality written all over it. Right from a baby, she wasn’t a pastel kind of girl. Most of her wardrobe is this very hot pink and she always sneers when anything is light pink or pastel color. Her new favorite colors are bright yellow and blue so I thought I would leave the wall this hot pink and pull in these new favorite colors with bedroom accessories and her new bedding.
It’s really hard to photograph white furniture with white bedding so you don’t get the full feeling of just how very bright her big girl bedroom is now. There is yellow and blue confetti sprinkled everywhere along with her fuchsia pink to tie it altogether. We went with this gorgeous bedding from Great Little Trading Company and it is one to lust over. They have so many matching items like her curtains and little stationary box next to her bed to go with it. Although she likes to use it as her book box. These helped me get the colours I wanted in her room and tie in that wall. I bought this sunshine pillow to add more yellow and blue and since then I have bought another solid yellow cushion to accompany her bedtime toys on her bed. So the yellow is really happening as much as the pink now.
While I love things to coordinate, I don’t like too much matching so I went for a throw rug that had those same yellow, blue and pink colours in it. I really tried to stick with these three colors throughout her entire big girl bedroom. You can see it in the bunting under her gallery wall, in her dollhouse on her dresser, in the curtains, rug, bedding and more. One thing missing is her yellow toy box which I think will pull everything nicely together. Unfortunately, it probably won’t be here before we go to America but nevertheless I didn’t want to wait any longer to share her room with you.
I think that’s how all decorating in the house go. Are you ever really done decorating a room? I know, in my house each room continues to change, rearrange, and mold into something different, frequently. It’s more like rooms just evolve isn’t it? Or are you one of those that decorate a room and don’t change a thing for years? I would love to know.
I couldn’t help but love this print “The Unicorns Made Me Do It”. In true, MM fashion she would blame fairies over admitting it herself, if something went wrong. It was a must have in her room. This night light has been amazing for her as she no longer needs the hallway light on and B has one too. I just adore the characters available.
These gorgeous Townhall houses and Russian doll set have been a firm favorite to MM since she got them. I think they have been moved numerous times around her bedroom as we worked on her big girl bedroom style. Even for weeks she had them on the floor so she could play with them. They are perfect as they are the three colors I wanted to focus in her room yellow, pink and blue so now they are placed as a main focal point on her dresser. They are perfect for her room color scheme. I love when kid’s bedrooms are full of bedroom accessories they can play with. It’s too hard to get things and constantly be telling them not to touch it or to be careful to keep it nice. I know she can play with these as much as she wants and they will still look great on her dresser as decor too.
The only thing I didn’t really move or change is her gallery wall. I do really need to update the photos as they are still my maternity photos in the frames I want to keep this for her to look at and for me to keep adding to it as she grows up. I have a few photos ready to be printed to replace these ones. I adore the look of a gallery wall mixed with posters and family photos and a few presents she has received along the way like the purple E which was from her Aunty when she was born or the heart shape that says sweet dreams that my best friend got her for her christening. You might not see it but there is a silver and glass rocking horse we bought her for her christening present sat on the bottom frame. She loves when the sun shines in and makes it sparkle on the wall. A bedroom should be as much of a playground as it is full of love and memories.
Overall, I love how it came out. Perhaps with curtain ties backs and her yellow toy box at the end of the bed, her room will have many years of play time and fun in it. I just hope I can keep it all together as I watch her sleep in her new big girl bedroom and think she still looks too small in it. Then I realize she has turned three years old and I don’t even know where all that time has gone, all I know is it went too fast. My littlest is growing up and there is no more baby milestones to pass in this house. As I get rid of the nursery cotbed that her brother had as a baby and then her, I get a little emotional about it. I have to admit I cried the first night I watched her sleep in her new big girl bedroom.
Come see the transformation of MM’s bedroom from baby nursery to toddler room to big girl bedroom.
*Bed Duvet & Pillow Set along with stationary box have been sent by GLTC for the purpose of this review all other items I have purchased myself and added to the room on my own account. You want to know where any items I didn’t mention were bought comment below and I will be happy to guide you there.
I LOVE IT!!!! MM would be so much at home in my house as that fuchsia colour is gorgeous and features a lot. The sprinkles design is my favourite GLTC print. I had hoped that one of my boys would choose it but they prefer brighter blues. Also, I have a post in draft entitled ‘A bright big boy bedroom tour’ … just need to finish it off. I love children’s rooms 🙂 x
Oh I love a good fuchsia feature. I think I would love it too. Sounds ace Rachel. Mine too I want to get some much more of it like the bookcase soon. It’s so much easier to decorate for kids than for myself. I am with you. Post sounds great can’t wait to see it.
Oh it looks gorgeous Jenny, and is just perfect for your little Missy Moo. I’m so excited to get to decorate rooms for the kids when we finally move; I love their shared space but itll be fun to do rooms more to their own individual tastes. x
Oh I will be so excited to see your kiddos three bedrooms. They will be decorated to perfection no doubt with your amazing style and taste. I love their shared bedroom now. The colors are always so vibrant and beautiful. Thanks lovely. MM does practical live in her bedroom 24/7 now and plays a lot more with friends in it too. Can’t wait till you all visit again soon.
Oh it is the most delightful room. I would be happy to sleep in it myself. I love the cloud and the rug and the doll house shelves. You have a great ability to bring everything together. I wish I had that. Everything is a mish mash here xx
Funny enough I always feel like everything is a mix match here too. Sometimes I think I have gone too mix match instead of matching. Glad it looks like it flows. She does absolutely love it. I am a fan of the yellow and fuchsia together too. (Blog colors) hahaha
Adore this and the bed frame is gorgeous, can I ask where it was from? My daughter is 3 too and we are planning an update to her room.
Thank you so much. Yes, of course, the bed frame and mattress are from John Lewis. It’s a lovely detail at the top and bottom and they build it for you upon delivery.
I love it. My daughters room is bright too. I too nearly went down the pastel route before realising brights were far more me and her. I have a draft post of my daughters room which I started last summer! I’ve got a new big girls bed on order for her at which point it will be nearer finished until I decide to add something else!
That was like me her bed took forever to actually show up so I was in limbo of sharing the post and so I started with the room accessories as I was just too excited at first.
Awww I really like it, its so lovely! Perfect for a little lady. I love the little russian dolls in the houses, a nice little touch and she seems to adore it all! Well done mommy! x
Thanks lovely. It’s a lovely space for her to play and get creative and she feels like such a big girl now. I am a little jealous myself though.
Oh wow! What a beautiful room Jenny! I bet she loves it xx
Thank you Morgana. She really does love it and spends a lot more time playing in it now. The way we have it laid out gives her more space to have fun in. I have to say I am a little jealous I want my room these colors.
It looks so beautiful Jenny, I love the rug and the curtains, and it’s such a nice space for your little lady. I love that photo of her too when I saw it on instagram. xx
Oh thanks Katie so sweet of you to say. I am a little jealous it’s not my room. haha She loves it and plays a lot more in it now too. She seems way too grown up though when I put her to bed.
Beautiful room full of personality! We are about to move Becky into a bigger room and completely redecorate it, so I have been pinning like a mad woman. It’s so much fun, but I’m a bit impatient like you, and can’t wait for it to be finally done. Where is the rug from? It’s lovely! X
The rug is from Great Little Trading Company lovely. They have amazing room accessories and even furniture for kids rooms. I get lost on their website and want to buy it all. lol Thank you she loves her new space.
Oh wow! It’s so wrong but I would love a room like that. It looks fabulous! I love everything especially the rug xx
Yes the rug is a firm favorite of mine too. I said that to my hubby hoping he wouldn’t mind me making our master bedroom fuchsia and yellow but he wasn’t so keen as me. lol
It looks gorgeous. we have a very similar style for our little girlies bedrooms!! I adore the bright wall and the white against it it’s perfect. I’m awful for “tweaking” Amelia’s bedroom constantly I cannot leave well enough alone! Love love this room you’ve done a fab job xx
I do the same though. I am constantly moving it around, rearranging room accessories. I think I have moved her bed and dresser like four times already. I am already looking at a little matching bookcase for the other side of her room.
Love this! A beautiful room for a beautiful girl. I love the colour theme, it works so well together. Holly will be moving to a big girl bed in 6 months and it makes me want to cry thinking about it X
Oh I can relate to those tears. I had a lot of them myself when I put her to bed the first night in her big girl bed on her 3rd birthday night. She seems to grow up all the sudden and look to old in her new room. Where had my baby gone? I just can’t believe how fast it goes.
love love love this room! so pretty x
Thank you I think I am a little jealous as it looks better than my own room. I love the colors so pretty and so vibrant just like her.
Would love to know where the rug is from please xx
Oh course, it’s lovely isn’t it? The rug is from Great Little Trading Company.
