The master bedroom is finally done. It only took seven years. Isn’t that always the case when you move into a new house and start with the kids bedrooms and every day living spaces first. When we moved seven years ago, we sold our old house with all the furniture in it. We walked into a new build with a mattress, kitchen dishes, our clothes and nine months pregnant with our first baby. Slowly but surely we decorated one room than another. Some rooms have evolved twice over with the two older kids growing up. Then a third baby came along and rooms again changed back into a nursery and playroom for him.

We kept putting our own room on hold. About the only thing we had done to it was paint it (last year) and had this big bed in the middle with a white comforter. Talk about empty and boring. I was desperate to sort it out but I didn’t know what I wanted it to look like. I kept going back and forth with just grey and white like the rest of the house or whether to add a pop of color. We had black venetian blinds put in when we first moved in as I thought I was going to do all black and gold. That was seven years ago somehow I was upset with gold when I was pregnant with my first. So I had to add black in somewhere to coordinate with the blinds that hubby refuses to let me change. Lesson learned, always get white venetian blinds they go with every color theme.

Like the rest of my house it’s full of mixed metallic. Not one room is just silver or gold or rose gold accents. I have them mixed all over and so I wanted to keep that going in our bedroom. I love metallic and I think it works really well to mix them up.

The first thing I did was add these gorgeous Cox & Cox Kasbah mirrors on each side of my eight foot headboard. I love the shape of them and the copper color pops off the grey painted walls. I couldn’t decide between a mirror that had shape or a taller rectangle mirror that was bigger at the sides. But I love this look. I think it pulls the colors off the wood grain in the lamps, side tables, the pompoms on the blanket and the curtains. I do have some wire words coming soon that will be gold above the headboard that I think will really complete the look.

The bedding I kept plain white. I think any pattern would have been too much with the velvet headboard and striped curtains. I got these gorgeous pom pom cushions and matching blanket. I think they really pull it all together. I searched high and low for something that had both grey and cream/brown/gold in them. I am pom pom obsessed from my clothes to interiors. Pom Poms everywhere, I say! They are actually the softest cushions and blanket to snuggle up with and a good book at night before bed.

I went back and forth on the side tables. There are so many options for a bedside table. For me, my bed is abnormally high for a bed so regular bedside tables aren’t tall enough. I measured each side hoping I could get mini chest of drawers on each side with three drawers but sadly I couldn’t find any that weren’t too wide. I had enough depth for them and I love the look in magazines of chest of drawers on each side but for me it wasn’t possible. The last option was to search for Occasional Tables that others put in living rooms and hallways. I needed something that was not too wide like a chest of drawers but still had the height of one. These Cox & Cox Grey Topped Tray Tables were a perfect match made in heaven. They fit on both sides of the bed perfect and were the perfect grey and gold combination from the distressed textured trays to the light wood legs. I love that I can take the trays off and use them for food or drink trays when I am hosting parties at home. They have made the whole bedroom come together so nicely.

I had fun styling both tray tables with my favorite books or some I haven’t read yet. There is nothing better than crawling into bed a little early on these dark winter nights and reading by the glow of a lamp light. I always have a few books on hand upstairs and downstairs that I can dive into a few pages if I get a minute.

This little wing dish is also Cox & Cox, it’s the perfect size for my wedding ring when I take it off at night. I love having candles all around the house. I have those that I light at night and those that I keep just for decoration. Please tell me you do the same?

These lamps were on an old desk we had in our sitting room that is now the playroom for the new baby. I am so glad I kept them in the loft for future use. I was going to get some bigger glass lamps to go at each side of the bed but until I find the right ones I thought these actually gave it a more modern twist as I have this shape main room light in the middle of the room. With the smaller mirrors I also thought big lamps would over shadow their beauty and I wanted the focus to stay on the mirrors and tables here.

I also try to make it fair with photos around the house of the kids. Call me ocd or just plain crazy but if there is one of one of them you will find there is one of all three of them. With two kids it was easy to have one photo on each side of the bed of each of them. What do you do when number three comes along? We had family photos taken this week so I will be printed family ones out for my bedside tables as I feel bad at the moment baby boy is missing from our master bedroom. But I do love the photo of my two eldest ones when they were only one years old and few months old. I can’t believe how much baby boy looks like his sister here above my black dresser, at the same age.

My bedroom is really dark. The bay window and venetian blinds don’t allow a lot of light in even on the brightest summers day. I light to use a lot of lighting and mirrors to help the dark corners of our house seem brighter and bigger. This extra large mirror is a firm new favorite I bought a few months ago. I draped fairy lights on top of it to give a nice glow at night. The black dresser pulls out the black bed skirt and curtain tie backs to coordinate with those black venetian blinds I can’t change. I love the black and white photos against the light grey wall paint. I have some more being printed to hang up with this one.

The one big decision I can’t make is whether or not to put a bench at the end of the bed to side on when I am getting ready as my bed is WAY too high to even lean against to put shoes on. Or do I put a very little chaise lounge in the bay window. I have seen on pinterest lately, instead of benches at the bottom of the bed, two ottoman or foot stools next to each other? There always seems more you can do with a room but sometimes less is more. What do you think?

It’s safe to say baby boy loves what I have done with our room as much as we do. Or its just absolutely adorable seeing a smiling baby and mama on a cozy bed. We spend a lot of time cuddling on the weekends here when we are having a lie in. I feed him in bed in the mornings lying down and it’s one of my favorite moments of each day. I like to catch a few extra minutes while he drinks if I can too. Every minute counts when you have three children. With my new bedding it makes me want to go to bed early every night and get lost in a book.

When my wire words get hung up over the headboard I think this room will be my very favorite one of the whole house. Until I decorate again that is, is anyone ever done decorating there house or is it a constant evolving thing for everyone? I don’t just mean buying new stuff, I have a tendency to float decorations around the house from room to room. Sometimes you will see mirrors or lamps in one room and the next visit it’s in another. Cushions are forever hopping beds. I think at the moment, MM has all the old sofa cushions on her bed as they are colorful and bright. I never throw any home decor out, that’s what the loft is for. If I redecorate I store them until one day I think, oh I just need that frame or cushion or lamp from the loft in this new space. If storage is tight, sell them on ebay for your new stuff. I did that with our living room two years ago not wanting to keep any of it. I sold it all first and then with the money I sold it, used that as my budget to redecorate it. You will be surprised how much new wallpaper or paint can do to an entire room.
