{Funny Phrase Day Friday} #25

Last updated on November 16th, 2023 at 06:14 pm

Kids really are great entertainers from the moment they learn to mumble their first words to well into their adulthood if they are like my family. Most of my family members think their comedians and I have been known to think I am hilarious at times too, even if no one else does.

I started Funny Phrase Day Friday, as just Phrase Day Friday, when Buba really started to talk and have conversations. I have baby brain like the rest of us, so I wanted a way to record the things he learned to say, and when but I never realized it would mold into the funny things he would say and come out with. So what started off as a document of his language milestones quickly became an entertaining place to share his language mishaps.

funnyphotoIt’s funny to hear myself come out with phrases my mother used to say to me, growing up, but it’s that step further when I have actually used her phrases so much that my two year old is now repeating them back to me.

“What did I say, Mommy?”

“Just chill.”

“Don’t make me…” he even puts his hands on his hips

“1, 2, almost at 3 Mommy!”

“Where do you think you are going?” which I say mostly to MM

“I don’t think so!”

“You don’t need that.”

“I am not going to say it again.” this is my all time favorite  but he uses it in a different context than me. I usually say this after I have asked him to do something or not do something a million times. He prefers to use it when I have asked him to repeat what he is saying because I didn’t hear him or understand  through his new whiny voice.

Then comes the funny randoms, that can fly out at anytime and make you chuckle to yourself.

“Don’t worry, I’m magic!” listening to Mr P and I debate how long his chicken pox will take to fade.

“I sleep in my sleeping bag, in my bed, in my room, in my house, on my street!”

“It will be ok, Mommy.”

“Mommy, get Grandma and Papa out of the computer.” wanting to facetime my parents.

I tell him to keep his food on his plate, he replies “oh sorry… I think.” putting food back on his plate.

“I don’t like carrots,” but they are good for your eyes I say, he says “no they want my mouth not my eyes silly.”

“Mommy don’t do that, you might hurt yourself.” ironing Missy Moo’s dress for the day.

“Be careful Mommy, I might slip.” going around the corner a bit too quick in the car.

There is never a dull moment or a dull topic coming from this jabberbox toddler. We are constantly snickering even when, as parents, we aren’t supposed to be. It’s hard to keep a straight face especially if you are in a public restroom and your newly potty trained son is grunting so loud you are sure the reception can hear him, you try to shhh him, which then only makes him shout out, “but its a really big one and it needs help to get out.” Praying no one else is in the restroom with you, but you hear snickering in the next stall. Crap! Literally!

  1. Love this, really made me chuckle.Since Lucas has started talking more I’ve noticed things I obviously say a lot he repeats back to me and I find myself saying all those proper mum saying, ‘what did I just say’ is a favourite! Don’t you love it when they come out with something totally random and you have no idea where it has come from, it’s so funny to think how their little minds must work. I love his, I’m sorry…I think!

  2. I write down the things Cherry says, I’m so glad I do as I wouldn’t remember a single one otherwise! They really do make you step back and take a look at yourself though, I’m always shocked when she says things that I say all the time without realising! And we have chicken pox in our house at the moment, nearly five days already and Tiger hasn’t even broken out properly yet, it’s going to be a long week! x

  4. These are just too adorable! I think my favorite is “1, 2, almost at 3 Mommy!”. I love how children mimic their parents and try to keep us inline all at the same time. Though I am no rush for my little girl to grow up (time just seems to be flying by) I do look forward to the days she says hilarious things.

    • Yes, I am the same, wishing and wondering what Missy Moo will sound like and the funny things she will say but also don’t want her to grow up too fast. It really does go by fast.

  5. Kids are so cute! I try to keep note of the funny things my daughter likes to say too… But I lose track! There’s so much of them 🙂 The “1,2, almost 3 Mommy!” made me laugh out loud 🙂 #PoCoLo.

  8. They’re great. What a good idea to record them. I wish I had done that, as you soon forget when they get past that age.

  9. Ha! Brilliant! My lo comes out with the funniest things too and I know that she has picked them up from me. I was watching Tangled the other day and cried, as always, at the end. She turned to me and said ‘don’t worry darling!’ haha!
